Dishonored 2: Better intro-skip replacement video.

Feel free to just delete this post/thread once you've got the files.

http://www.file-upload.net/download-12083512/Dishonored2.7z.html http://www.file-upload.net/download-12083513/Dishonored2.zip.html

(7z = solid archive = smaller because all 4 files have the same content, but not everybody has 7z. Sadly.)

Improvements over the current "void engine" video:

1) Directory structure like the installed game, aiding the user. (starts with "Dishonored2")

2) No sound.

3) No fade-in that is then cut off.

4) Smaller.

5) Shorter playback-time.

6) Shows clearly the Arcane Studios logo, which is in the spirit of the product, doesn't look as much like a hack.

Downside: First one or two frames are blocky, and you see that 4 times. But overall, it's considerably better.

Garrett (talkcontribs)

OK, I have updated it now. Is there a reason why this is longer than a single frame? If you use an image (e.g. PNG) as the source the converter will make a single-frame video by default.

You can update files directly with the "Upload new version" link on the file's page (even if you weren't the original uploader).

God ownerOfTheUniverse (talkcontribs)

> You can update files directly

Today I learned.

> Is there a reason why this is longer than a single frame?

I used Radtools to convert the existing video, which allows to choose a frame range. Don't know if it can do PNGs, I only saw that it can EXTRACT images (e.g. PNG) from videos. Anyway:

Originally, I tried 10 frames. Had only one of the movies replaced with it. But the game froze with a black screen when it got there.

Tried 20 frames - same result. 30 worked. Tried 25, worked. So, that's what the original upload was.

I noticed that the game seems to do an extra fade in/out for each clip when it is played, at least I think it was not in the videos themselves. Maybe that fading is not implemented properly: They didn't expect videos shorter than fade-time. Maybe.

Anyway, the current upload is only 20 frames, I think, and because of this and your reply, I'll try to do a 1-frame later.

EDIT:

By the way, do you have any idea why the page

http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/795-dishonored-2-intro-skip/

(and probably similar) is only blank in Firefox? I disabled all extensions (and restarted FF), and I have the same problem at home and in the office. Works fine in Chrome.

EDIT:

So I only looked at the above link in Chrome and wasn't logged in. In case you can only update a download-file while logged in, no wonder I didn't see that.

Wait, I'll just test that ... WTF! Now I logged in with Chrome and visited the above link. I get:

The community.pcgamingwiki.com page isn’t working / community.pcgamingwiki.com is currently unable to handle this request. / HTTP ERROR 500

Maybe that's because of our proxy, but maybe the problem is with PGCW. When I log out again (via a different page) and reload the page with the error message, it works.

In case it's a PCGW problem (I'll probably find out once I get home.), maybe it's because I have spaces and even a comma in my name?

Garrett (talkcontribs)

If the game is actually waiting for the video in some way that may mean videos can't be the shortest length (most games don't do this).

As for the browser issue, try forcing a refresh (Ctrl+F5).

God ownerOfTheUniverse (talkcontribs)

I'm sorry, I made a few late edits. Your reply wasn't made yet after that, but I believe you somehow didn't see them yet.

Garrett (talkcontribs)

I've brought the IP.Board issue to Soeb on IRC.

EDIT: the comma is the problem; "Characters not permitted: [ ] | , ; $". The wiki registration page doesn't enforce these character restrictions. If you want to have the IP.Board side working Soeb could rename your account to something else (this is entirely up to you; it doesn't break anything on the wiki side).

God ownerOfTheUniverse (talkcontribs)

Thanks a lot for checking that out, Garrett. Maybe you guys could make sure that the registration page shows a hint of which characters are allowed and which aren't.

Hm, I just checked whether or not the account creation process shows it - like some other pages do once you entered something wrong - and so it was too late when I found out that it doesn't. Now I created a new account that should just be deleted. (Actually quite wicked that users can not do this themselves.)

USER: Trwrtwrgegetgjjzrrz

PW: 123

Ok, after all that fuzz, could you please Internet relay to Soeb my request to have my account renamed?

OLD: God, owner of the universe

NEW: God - owner of the Universe

Many thanks / in advance.

Garrett (talkcontribs)

Your account has been renamed now.

God ownerOfTheUniverse (talkcontribs)

> Your account has been renamed now.

Thanks! But it turns out, that http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/795-dishonored-2-intro-skip/

still isn't working for me in Firefox but in Chrome. And when I log in in Chrome, too, I get "The community.pcgamingwiki.com page isn’t working / community.pcgamingwiki.com is currently unable to handle this request. / HTTP ERROR 500"

> "Characters not permitted: [ ] | , ; $"

I guess that it's still my name, even though it uses none of those.

In case it turns out that this is so, I'm willing to go with

God_ownerOfTheUniverse

Garrett (talkcontribs)

I've referred the problem to Soeb again.

God ownerOfTheUniverse (talkcontribs)

Hey, umm, could you please nudge the guy again? Because I can still not load those pages while logged in, so I can also not update files.

Garrett (talkcontribs)

EDIT: Soeb has figured out a way around the problem.

<soeb> Just created an account with spaces and a dash, community had not trouble with it
<soeb> I'll rename him to his old name
<soeb> he can then create an account under whatever new name he desires to use from now on (keep in mind character restriction)
<soeb> he'll create an account on the community site
<soeb> I'll merge his old contribution history into the new account

If that's OK with you Soeb will rename you back so you can make the account again with your current hyphenated username.

God ownerOfTheUniverse (talkcontribs)

Thanks for all the work. That sounds like the solution. So:

  • soeb would rename me back to "God, owner of the universe".
  • I would make a new account via pcgamingwiki.com (Will use "God - owner of the Universe" again.), but I don't understand what the extra line "he'll create an account on the community site" is supposed to mean. Do I need two accounts? Only needed one so far. If I need two THEN, then maybe the problem NOW is that I only have one.
  • soeb merges my current account's database entries with the new account (thereby hopefully not re-introducing the very problem :P)

In case that extra account creation line was just a phrasing hick-up, then let's go for it right away. Otherwise, please explain what I need to know. If I come back and discover that I'm logged out, I'll know what to do.

Garrett (talkcontribs)

You only have to make the one account; the IP.Board side automatically makes the user info it needs the first time you visit that side while logged in (which is the step that isn't working for your current account). Your wiki edit history etc. will be merged across to the new name, so everything will work as expected. Soeb tried this the other day with some test accounts (as shown on Special:Log/usermerge) to verify this approach. I'll let him know that you're OK with this solution.

Once the rename has been done you'll be seeing your old comma username on the wiki, so at that point you can log out (if it has kept you logged in) and make a new user account with the hyphen name you wanted, then just let me or Soeb know so your edits can be shifted across.

EDIT: the rename has now been carried out. You can log out and make the new account, and you should then be able to use the files section etc. normally. Once you have the new account up and running Soeb will move your edits etc. across.

Hi, it's the old me! The new me can't create a reply here. I did as I said. (e.g. email address is the same (btw. PW is different))

Could you please join me so that this one dies? Looking forward to this

(with EITHER account)! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

Hey, I merged your old account into the new one. I've picked through IPB as well to purge it of whatever half-made accounts it created for you, which I think should fix it now - IPB uses the email address as the anchor between IPB and MediaWiki accounts, which is likely what was still causing it. Please try again (just click sign in on the forums while signed into your new account) and see if it works. If it doesn't I'm honestly quite confused as to what could be causing it still.

Let's hope this works. If it doesn't, I have one more idea that we can try out. We'll see how this goes, first.

God ownerOfTheUniverse (talkcontribs)

Hi, Soeb! Thanks for all your efforts. Turns out we're not yet fine.

  • Logged in with old account: Doesn't work. Good.
  • Removed all pcgamingwiki cookies before trying to log in with new account.
  • Logged in, checked above "-intro-skip/" URL - still no dice. White window, no source code.
  • Checked preferences: "Autoconfirmed users, Users, emailconfirmed", "155", but sadly also "05:01, 18 November 2016" instead of "14:24, 7 December 2013"
  • All Wiki editing entries seem to show the new name. But this thread here still has old ones. Maybe that's even an indication of the cause of the IPB problem somehow.
  • "create account" page doesn't yet tell users which characters (not) to use for user name or what the parameters of the passwords are.

EDIT:

> (just click sign in on the forums while signed into your new account)

I actually overlooked that, but no matter: "http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/index" just shows a white page, too.

God ownerOfTheUniverse (talkcontribs)

PING (Are you there? If so, please see other reply.)

God ownerOfTheUniverse (talkcontribs)

Hey, could you talk to Soeb about my reply I made in this sub-thread? I haven't heard from him in a week! Thanks in advance.

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

Hi, very sorry, didn't have time to respond. Could you please send me an email, and I'll try another solution? Thanks.

God ownerOfTheUniverse (talkcontribs)

IT WORKS! :D Issue closed. (MY issue. Don't forget about the account creation page.)

Garrett (talkcontribs)

User names longer than 26 characters can no longer be registered (the account creation page shows an error message). The invalid character list will also be updated so IP.Board's invalid characters can't be used when registering.

God ownerOfTheUniverse (talkcontribs)

Nice, that makes things more round, appreciated!

I'm not a native English speaker, so my understanding of how "between" is generally interpreted might be off, but: "name must be between 3 and 26 characters" sounds like the name has to be from 4 to 25 characters long. Of course it's clear what the message means: Why would one compose such a riddle instead of straight out saying the numbers? So, 3-26 it is. I just find the word "between" misplaced. /nitpick

God ownerOfTheUniverse (talkcontribs)

WTF, I had a full response typed out, clicked SAVE PAGE, and then it just showed the page up to your comment again. The text is just gone.

EDIT: never mind, it was just not shown (there was also no link to show hidden replies, I'm quite sure)

God ownerOfTheUniverse (talkcontribs)

> Is there a reason why this is longer than a single frame?

Ok, experiment done! User "Arnex02" on the DH2 talk page http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Talk:Dishonored_2

supplied all black movie(s), "each" a second long, indeed resulting in 4 seconds of blackness. I took that movie and converted it to have only FIVE frames (still 33ms per frame), so it should overall be very short. Tried it - took very long (but worked).

Either way - that's uncomfortable, because just blackness, and for such a long time, is unsatisfactory. With the current movies, we're good: You can see the blockiness of the movie's start 4 times, so you see progress and see that everything's working out.

So, what about the much too long FIVE frames of blackness?

Well - if you look at the game's start with my "Arcane Studios" movies, you'll notice that the last time the movie runs, it takes a lot longer. I guess the game just needs some time before it can move on (and it probably does stuff while the movies play).

TL;DR: Doesn't get any shorter, anyway.
