Wrace's patch non-vanilla changes and how to revert them.

18
Summary by Aemony

Marking this thread as resolved as it has served its purpose.

Arhummk (talkcontribs)

wrace's SR1 patch introduces some changes to the game as an improvement agreed upon by the fans of the game. If you do not like these changes, here's how to revert them according to wrace

1) Delete/rename the following in the music folder:

KainBattle.ogg - the known music track from BO2 (battle with the last boss), which is used in
  Defiance also
MainTitleDef.ogg - this track is used also in Defiance as Main Theme, but it is the original
  track from SR2

Delete/rename the bigfile folder, which contains a slightly modified texture of Raziel so his eyes are a slightly different, I have asked wrace the exact reason for this change, will update this post when I get the reply.

Arhummk (talkcontribs)

Also, it does not use music from defiance, just the two tracks from SR2 and BO2 as mentioned above. The other music tracks included are taken from the PS1 original which was missing in the PC port. The closest thing to the dynamic music restoration.

Arhummk (talkcontribs)

Please check the steam guide comments for further clarification for the changes by wrace. Too long to be copy pasted here, thanks.

Macgovern (talkcontribs)

I read his full response to you, and while it does clarify things, it also doesn't change the fact wrace has added or modified things which were not in the game before based on his own personal taste, specifically the modified Rasiel character model texture and adding two tracks from other Legacy of Kain games which were not in this game before, specifically, to quote wrace:

1) Pillars - the track "Ariel's Lament" from SR2; 2) Last battle with Kain - the track from the last battle in BO2.

The edit to this page, as shown in the logs, was not made by the "one who knows nothing", aka If and while, but by me after actually looking at the patch and seeing what it changes. I will be changing the note on the changes to be accurate, especially as I didn't know about how Defiance uses music from all the Legacy of Kain games. Using that game to source as much missing original Soul Reaver 1 music as possible is quite a clever solution given the differences in how the PlayStation original and the PC version handle audio.

I would also like to add that wrace and If and while have had quite the feud, both off and on PCGW regarding the Legacy of Kain series (with the exception of Defiance), and both have claimed their views are backed by the Legacy of Kain series when, as far as their interactions on this wiki in the past have demonstrated, they merely have a personal feud. As a member of PCGamingWiki staff, I thus have to process what either of them say with a large amount of skepticism.

Arhummk (talkcontribs)

Yeah I can sort of understand the situation a bit better and I agree to side with skepticism.

Thanks for merging new info with the existing description as I wasn't sure how I'd do that myself.

Wrace (talkcontribs)

I am the wrace. The creator and the owner of both (unique) mods which were shared here without asking my permissions for this at all. Moreover, I could easily deny to share these mods here at all after very bad behavior of the people like "if and while" and moderators who provided the ban for me here (look, for example, on the reaction of the author of "Soul Fixer" here for some small clarifications in the text about this one mod) by using the very strange reasons and the evident lie of "if and while", but I did not do this at all because I have no ambitions and the only reason for me to create any improvements - the duty about other fans (like I by myself). No, I do not need the presence of my mods here just because I asked never for any form of donate for me (like the authors of "Soul Fixer" for SR2 and "OpenGL wpapper" for BO1) and did not place any king of the advertisings (by myself) on my own site (like the owners of PCGamingWiki do now).

It is evident that I am the only one here who has full info about Soul Reaver (just because I made my mods and provided the appropriate info above). So anyone here (excepting me) is the "one who knows nothing" (while I did not explain something for this one directly). Moreover, the moderator above confirmed this fact explicitly (for example, by these words - "especially as I didn't know about how Defiance uses music from all the Legacy of Kain games"; fan communities of LOK in help to know about such things; I was the part of many of these communities from the start of this century).

About this: "I would also like to add that wrace and If and while have had quite the feud, both off and on PCGW regarding the Legacy of Kain series (with the exception of Defiance), and both have claimed their views are backed by the Legacy of Kain series when, as far as their interactions on this wiki in the past have demonstrated, they merely have a personal feud."

Look the log of edits of this article for SR1. I provided (and provide) every time the full explanation of my edits while "If and while" provided no explanations at all. So your words that "both have claimed their views" are the evident lie - "If and while" provided no words at all, so this one did not provide this one view at all. Moreover, I saw never this one in the known fan communities of LOK (and you too - I am about moderator here) and I saw never the products of this one while you try to compare my view / knowledge with the same of some unknown one who demonstrated exactly nothing real.

About this: "As a member of PCGamingWiki staff, I thus have to process what either of them say with a large amount of skepticism."

Because you are very unprofessional one as I said early already. The evident and simple fact - you compare the views of the one who is the creator of this one known products for LOK games (one of them was integrated into official distributive of the game in 2012 - I am about SR1 - and is used by several hundreds thousands fans only oficially; look this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DOKzTHaPfM - will million views which contains my credentials + address of my site), who provides the whole explanations of any thing and who provides tech support during many years (for example, in the section Comments of the linked Steam Guide with my product) with the "view" of the one who created nothing known and did not provide any explanations at all, just reverted back the changes time by time without any explanations at all or provided the edits of the description of the products which were created by something else + this one did not demonstrate at all that this one has any skill in programming or any other knowledge about LOK games. And you just ignore these simple things.

And about the edits with the reasoning that there are some people that want to play into the original (vanilla) game - where are all these people? I saw exactly about 0 complaints according to described moments in the communities of the SR1 on Steam and gog (the only two places which sell LOK games officially). So you provide sooner such adjusments by following some strange complaints of my own haters (very small amount of people). I think that it is useless and bad practice.

BTW: if one wants to play into the original (vanilla) game, this one should find the original CD with this game (PC version) with the original rpl movies on it and should not use even bink patch. In this case this one will play with outdated low quality video and with black stripes in addition (if this one will run the game at all). And, of course, this one should not use updated version of bink patch too - because it provides support of additional music tracks from PS, the correct realization of music playback (which is near to the one from PS, not to the bugged port on PC), support of XInput gamepads, mouse, and so on. And these moments were never the part of original game which was released in 1999 (when there are no even good mouses).

Shortly: the claim "I want to play like in vanilla" is the very unclever claim. Just because the main parts of any game are the gameplay and battle system. And these parts were not changed at all permanently. I saw the try of fans to recreate SR1 - they could not create even the same battle system as original SR1 has (the battle system in the game of fans was veeeery bad; yep, very good graphics and models, but with the ugly battle system it is the very bad game). Yes, I added the "New Game+" mode which allows to play in this game with already solved block puzzles (very annoying thing by the opinion of some players - I saw such claims in the Reviews on Steam), but: 1) it is the optional thing; 2) exactly, this thing was obtained using the existing features of the original game (it is just loading of the save which was created early using the hidden possibility of original game to "jump" by locations). So the claim here "no-no, it is not vanilla" will look very funny - yep, it is "not vanilla" for you just because you know nothing about hidden features of this game. And the same is about big amount of other features. And yes - it seems that you (moderator or anyone else) did not see at all the whole amount of likes / awards / thanks in my threads with my products (the TimeWayBack Machine in help). So: there is the opinion of very big amount of users that show it by themself explicitly (on Steam at most) and did not provide any complaints at all, and there is the opinion of some small amount of strange people who provided their claims for me explicitly NEVER. And you - moderators here - took into consideration the opinion of such strange people with the full ignorance of the explicit opinion of very big amount of other people. Is it very unclever behavior? Exactly.

Wrace (talkcontribs)

Oh, yeah. I want to see the apologies of moderators for the improper actions of one of them (who provided the ban for me here) with the firing of this moderator and with the permanent ban here for the "if and while". Otherwise I deny to share my mods here (especially because I did not provide my permission for sharing bink patch on the Nexus Mods - it is the direct violation of legal rights of owner). It is enough that my mods are provided in the communities of LOK on Steam and gog (the only two official places which sell LOK games) and I liked never the situation when these mods were used by the ones who did not buy LOK games on Steam / gog (these games have very funny prices on the sales) = these people do not care about other fans at all and they are too greedy to show Crystal Dynamics the true number of LOK fans (that's why we did not have up to now neither new LOK game nor remaster of already existing game).

Aemony (talkcontribs)

Hi,

Let me start this off straight away with stating that no moderator will be "fired" from their role as it stands. Your 3 months ban was taken by one of our moderator after another prominent senior editor brought problematic edits to our attention that went against the editing guidelines of PCGW and removed valid information from pages. The ban was therefor warranted.

Past that, our other senior editor Macgovern have done a tremendous work trying to navigating the situation with these games and the difference in opinions and perspective with the tools and information available to him, and while you may not agree with his thoughts and understanding of the matter, that's fine, but that doesn't warrant any additional repercussions on our end. This whole site is crowdsourced and all senior editors, moderators, and developers (myself included) are unpaid volunteers at the end of the day.

As it stands we will remove your name from where it is mentioned in the various pages to respect your wishes, but from what I can tell we do not actually link to or redistribute (as in hosting) your actual mods on the site. We only link to other external resources not operated by you which then themselves host/redistribute your content. If you have an issue with the resources we link to, please take it up with their respective owner.

Br,

Aemony

Aemony (talkcontribs)

One correction:

> I did not provide my permission for sharing bink patch on the Nexus Mods

We have removed the Bink patch from the page since as you say it is not allowed to redistribute the mod.

I recommend you file a dispute with Nexus Mods as well if you actually want the mod removed from their site as we cannot help you on that front.

Wrace (talkcontribs)

Now remove the link on Steam Guide with my product on the page of Soul Reaver: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Legacy_of_Kain:_Soul_Reaver I do not want to provide you the way to make money on advertisements which are taken from the visits of this page by players (I provided and provide tech support for no money) or just to increase your reputation of the ones who can provide really working solutions. Especially because you kept the real desinformation about my product and removed all keypoints of it including my nickname.

Also remove all links on the page of SR1 which are allowed or allowing to obtain the distributive of this game with already integrated bink patch (the product I own) - it is also violation of my rights: I did not provide the permission to make money on this game using my mod. That's why this game is locked for the sales now on the gog and Steam. gog tried to provide their update to replace the early version of my mod (which was created in 2008 - bink patch) at the September of 2023 (the first version of this gog update was created at the March of 2021 and I tested it), but it was hidden again after several weeks due to bugs and low quality = another violation of contract with the publisher by gog (they should provide the really working solution on the newest OSs by themself - i.e. they should NOT use the products they do not own like they did in 2012).

And yes: on the page of Soul Reaver 2: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Legacy_of_Kain:_Soul_Reaver_2 remove another link on product I own - "SR2 Enhancer". Especially because you even do not understand what players asked for and you do not care about this.

One more: on the page of Blood Omen 1: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Blood_Omen:_Legacy_of_Kain remove the link on "CubanRaul's Community Patch". Just because the most important part of it is the improvements I made for this game (read the page with the description of this product). "Verok's GL wrapper & patch" contains also the same improvements, but I will not provide the deny on using of this one product here.

At the end: remove my account here with all content I provided. It is not my duty to help you. There is Steam.

Aemony (talkcontribs)

If you have issues with other sites using or linking to your content, you need to take it up with them.

Wrace (talkcontribs)

Now I have issues with this site (PCGamingWiki). Remove all content here which deals with my products (I provided the list above) - I do not provide now my permission for you to make money (on advertisements) by providing links on these products or just to increase your reputation. Of course, I have also another way to obtain the same result - I can add again (I did this already and it was known as anti-gog = anti-thieves protection) additional protection against people like you in my main product which (protection) will disable all improvements if one will run the game without Steam (and did not have the game on it). Especially because I finished already with another big update which will provide really true Windowed mode / WideScreen (not the bugged one which was used and provided in this article) / some other nice features (and will have another structure of files / folders).

Macgovern (talkcontribs)
Kainxviii (talkcontribs)

Good riddance, imho.

Wrace (talkcontribs)

You provided lie again in the article for SR1 (I am about these your words - "By express request of the mod's creator, Wrace, PCGamingWiki is, for reasons known only to Wrace"; the reasons known for anyone who read this board - I will repeat them again below), used some trick to keep the info about my mod and still kept the lie about my mod. Moreover, I - author of the mod (info of which is provided in this article) - can't edit this article (), so just remove any mention about this mod completely as I requested originally.

BTW: I obtained the info from moderator about my ban on one month here and the reasons of it. I quote it below.

Offense: Edit warring, harassing users, vandalism

The simple and evident question: where exactly did you see the "harassing users" and "vandalism"?

That's why I provided such my condition above (true reason of my deny to PROVIDE ANY INFO about my mods here which is KNOWN for anyone who read this board): "Oh, yeah. I want to see the apologies of moderators for the improper actions of one of them (who provided the ban for me here) with the firing of this moderator and with the permanent ban here for the "if and while". Otherwise I deny to share my mods here (especially because I did not provide my permission for sharing bink patch on the Nexus Mods - it is the direct violation of legal rights of owner)."

You did not fulfill it and I provided my deny as I promised. Very simple.

P.S. it seems that you do not understand that your pathetic tricks (which looks very clever for yourself and your minions) will not work at all. Just because I can just add the protection I mentioned above at the next release (with really big improvements) of my mod which will be described in the appropriate Steam Guide by the words below. "Limitation: the game MUST be run from the Steam interface. It is protection against thieves (gog, PCGamingWiki, so on) and piracy." So your words "for reasons known only to Wrace" on the page of the game on PCGamingWiki will look very funny for the most of users.

P.P.S.: if you want to keep the info about both existance of Enhanced Improvement and deny of the author of the mod on providing any info about it (them) on PCGamingWiki, I can allow you to do this. In such way: 1) remove any mention about all products with my code from the appropriate articles on PCGamingWiki as I requested; 2) in the appropriate section (about Enhanced Improvements) add such text: "There is another ("only one really working and good" - this text (with parentheses) should be added in the article for SR1 only) Enhanced Improvement which can't be mentioned in this article due to deny of its author by such reason (it is opinion of this one) - inadequate behavior of moderators and users here. You can take this Enhanced Improvement by yourself in the top Steam Guide ("with the big amount of likes and awards" - this text (with parentheses) should be added in the article for SR1 only) for this game." It will be the real truth and fulfilling of your desires.

P.P.P.S: I just remembered that you, perhaps, can't understand by yourself the difference between providing the direct link on the product, forming the search request and the way I suggested in the PPS, so let I spend some amount of my time to explain the difference between them.

1) In the first two cases - when you provide the direct name of enhancement - you can still keep the lie / desinformation about it (the block of the code about reverting changes in the article of SR1 and in this article too; though I saw only one for all time (about 10 years) who asked about this; moreover, I know about existance of several texture's mods for this game which are very popular among fans; in addition to this, there was another (very popular) Steam Guide with the modification of texture of Raziel and there are exactly 0 complaints about it; so providing such info in the article of SR1 is the deliberately misleading users using opinion of just one strange fan) while you can't do this in the last case (when you did not provide the direct name of enhancement, name of its creator and any additional info about it). In the last case users will obtain only the info that I - creator of the mod - provide about it. If one does not like something, I can listen this one opinion and provide either explanation for this one or the appropriate fix in my mod. While now - in the article of SR1 - the opinion of just one user is imposed on others. Also as other users can provide their own edits of the artcles though both them and even moderators know NOTHING about the work of the game itself and about work of mod. Just because they did not create their own improvements for this game.

2) The words about just using the top Steam Guide will teach users where they need exactly find the really working solutions (not on PCGamingWiki, just on the places where games are actually sold and where there is some kind of real tech support for really playing users - not just opinions of ones who do not play in games really).

3) Forming the search request (instead of providing direct link or info about top Steam guide) is the direct and explicit encouraging piracy = violation of legal rights of creators of products.

x) It is very strange that you kept the info about Soul Enhancer (my product) in the article for SR2 though someone moved info about it at the end of this article (from the section of Enhanced Improvements, far away from Soul Fixer, author of which can't provide requested by the users fix (I am about fixing the bug with the movement when one uses Mouse+Keyboard controls scheme - the existance of this bug was confirmed by the author of Soul Fixer - you can easily find the appropriate info on the site of this one - but this one can't resolve it though this bug was resolved by myself in 2008 and was just the part of our localization from that time) which was provided by myself in the standalone mod though I provided to the author of Soul Fixer the appropriate code for this fix (to do not share my own mod at all), but this one rejected my help at all) and your moderators confirmed this action (yep, they kept very strange and really unneeded advice about activating of full version of starting dialog with settings which can solve NOTHING, but they confirmed moving in the strange place the mod which fulfill desires of fans which (desires) were provided in the big amount of Steam Reviews for SR2 - you can easily check this moment (complaints on back tracking, impossibility to skip ingame movies, unworking Invincibility feature in the PC-version of the game though it is official feature of PS2-version of SR2) by yourself). With the correction I provided in the PPS you will need to move the info about this mod back into the correct section.

Kainxviii (talkcontribs)

Total meltdown, wow.

Wrace (talkcontribs)

Really good explanations require always big amount of space (= words) for describing of situation / providing facts.

It has nothing common with the "total meltdown". Though I understand that it can look so in the eyes of ones who can provide only several words in their posts and can't provide any real explanation by himself / herself / itself.

Aigoao (talkcontribs)

It is not easy to sympathize with you when you use such an abrasive tone. It would be better not to immediately think that other users are malicious.

There are no older topics
