Hex edit executable files[1]
  1. Open SWEP1RCR.EXE with a hex editor such as HxD.
  2. Search for a string 80 02 00 00 75 09 81 7f 08 e0 01 in a line 000883d0.
  3. Values 80 02 and e0 01 represent the resolution 640x480. Change them with values of a resolution you want to use:
    • 1280x720 - Replace 80 02 with 00 05 and replace e0 01 with D0 02.
    • 1280x800 - Replace 80 02 with 00 05 and replace e0 01 with 20 03.
    • 1366x768 - Replace 80 02 with 56 05 and replace e0 01 with 00 03.
    • 1440x900 - Replace 80 02 with A0 05 and replace e0 01 with 84 03.
    • 1680x1050 - Replace 80 02 with 90 06 and replace e0 01 with 1A 04.
    • 1920x1080 - Replace 80 02 with 80 07 and replace e0 01 with 38 04.
    • 2560x1440 - Replace 80 02 with 00 0A and replace e0 01 with A0 05.
  4. Save the file.
  5. Open RACER.EXE with a hex editor.
  6. Search for a string 80 02 00 00 00 a0 00 00 80 03 00 00 00 e8 00 00 80 05 00 00 00 08 01 00 80 06 00 00 00 68 01 00 80 0c 00 00 00 e0 01 in a line 00033010.
  7. The same values are at the beginning and end of the highlighted string - change them to your desired resolution, in a similar way you did it with SWEP1RCR.EXE.
  8. Save the file.
  9. Launch RACER.EXE. Click Hardware Configuration, and then Change Display Settings to select your chosen resolution (it should show up instead of 640x480).

Notes

Issues fixed

Graphical issues

e.g., low frame rate, black screen, white screen, green screen, artifacts, crash on startup, etc.
Use dgVoodoo 2 for proper emulated old DirectX support[citation needed]
  1. Download dgVoodoo 2.
  2. Extract D3DImm.dll and DDraw.dll from the MS folder into the installation folder.
  3. You may need to rename dxgi.dll to dxgi.dll.BAK.
  4. You can configure the emulation and additional graphics settings using dgVoodooCpl.exe.

Notes

Allows the game to run properly on Windows 8, 10.
dgVoodoo 2 requires a DirectX 11 graphics card.

Installing on 64-bit versions of Windows

Alternative installer for x86/x64[2]

German website with the installers: website An alternative Inno Setup installer can be downloaded from mediafire for CD-Version and DVD-Collection Version. The alternative installer includes dgvoodoo 2.5, widescreen resoluten fix, new launcher with extended game hardware configuration, IPXWrapper for LAN playing, nomousy to fix start the game with dgvoodoo, batch startfix to play the game with single core on multi core systems, international and us patch v1.1 integrated, AND FFmpeg with Batchfiles to extracting video and audio files of the game. It's the ultimative installer for english, german und french version for this game.

1. input the CD or DVD of the game in your CD/DVD-Drive OR mount a iso from the game
2. start this alternative setup from your HDD. Choose the language from the CD/DVD/ISO-Game
3. The setup found the CD/DVD from the game and start the install from it.
4. After the regular installation, additional files are copied.

- The latest patch of the game

  (Single Core Fix and Mouse Fix (nomousy) for dgvoodoo only over the Launcher)

- The setup installing the game original with all regulary setup-files. 1:1

You must no create a new image file for the game. You can use the original CD/DVD. Or you use a ISO. There is everything in it that is needed for the game.

Optional for DirectX-9 User: Wine3D Emulation Files
This patch use the Wine3D emulation instead of dgvoodoo. Wine3D working with a DirectX-9 Emulation.
This patch files are only created for this alternative setup.

1. Make a backup and delete from the installation folder following files:

  - D3D8.dll
  - D3DImm.dll
  - DDraw.dll

2. Copy the correct Wine3D patch files for your Star Wars Racer Version in the installation folder and overwrite the existing files.
3. Run the game regular over the Launcher from this alternative installer

Wine3D emulation work not perfect. no fog, no reflections, no lensflare, more color banding, etc.
Wine3D is a pure dirt emulation for Star Wars Racer.

Use dgVoodoo for a perfect game emulation.
dgVoodoo is better as Wine3D or dxWND at this game.

Alternative installer[3]

An alternative MSI installer can be downloaded from his website. A guide on how to create a CD image with a new installer can be found here.

Manual installation[4]
  • Copy the gnome folder from Racer's CD to your hard disk and rename it to RACER. Then copy RACER.EXE from the root of the CD into RACER folder on your hard disk. Finally grab DSETUP.dll, DSETUP16.dll DSETUP32.dll, SysCheck.exe, SYSCHECK.INI and Website.exe files from INSTALL folder and put them in RACER. If you had placed the RACER folder in C:\Games then your folder structure would look like this:
C:\games\RACER\data\ *files*
C:\games\RACER\a3dapi.dll
C:\games\RACER\DSETUP.DLL
C:\games\RACER\DSETUP16.DLL
C:\games\RACER\DSETUP32.DLL
C:\games\RACER\IFORCE2.dll
C:\games\RACER\Racer.exe
C:\games\RACER\Smush.dll
C:\games\RACER\SWEP1RCR.exe
C:\games\RACER\SYSCHECK.EXE
C:\games\RACER\syscheck.ini
C:\games\RACER\WEBSITE.EXE
  • Now you need the registry entries. Copy the following into Notepad and save it as "racer.reg", after you edit the file paths as appropriate:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Star Wars: Episode I Racer\v1.0]
"Install Path"="C:\\Games\\RACER"
"Executable"="C:\\Games\\RACER\\SWEP1RCR.EXE"
"Source Path"="D:"
"CD Path"="D:"
"Analyze Path"="D:\\INSTALL\\SysCheck.exe"
"Source Dir"="D:\\"
"InstallType"=dword:00000009
"Display"="Primary Display Driver"
"3D Device"="Microsoft Direct3D Hardware acceleration through Direct3D HAL"
"Display Width"=dword:00000400
"Display Height"=dword:00000300
"GUID"="{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}"
"FullScreen"=dword:00000000
"Fix Flicker"=dword:00000000
"DevMode"=dword:00000000
"UseFett"=dword:00000000
"JoystickID"="1"
  • Now, you should be able to start the game.

Notes

If a launcher still shows only install option, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Star Wars: Episode I Racer and see if it's not empty. Keep in mind, that these entries must be located under Wow6432Node or they will not work.
If an error pops up asking to reinstall a game, it's probably, because entries in registry point to incorrect locations. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Star Wars: Episode I Racer. There edit entries Analyze Path, CD Path, Source Dir and Source Path to refer to locations on your CD/DVD drive. After that edit entries Executable and Install Path, to make them refer to a folders and files on your hard drive.
