Issues unresolved

Slow-down when using a controller

  • When using a controller, frame-rate may drop significantly in main-menu.

Analog inputs do not function on newer versions of Windows

  • On Windows 8 and higher, USB controller (wheel and gamepad) analog inputs register according to the options menu, but will not function in-game as the default controller cannot be set.
  • A temporary workaround involves plugging the controller to a USB 2.0 slot and other peripherals into a USB 3.0 or higher slot.

This is due to how the game treats device priorities, relocating the controller to the top of the default controller list. This ceases to work on the next PC start-up, locking the steering to the left and disabling all controller input except for Acceleration.

Issues fixed

Low FPS on modern systems

(DirectX 10.1+) Use dgVoodoo wrapper[citation needed]
  1. Download newest dgVoodoo 2.
  2. Extract it and place it in a convenient place.
  3. Start dgVoodooSetup.exe and configure it.
  4. Select Virtual 3D Accelerated Card under Videocard and set its RAM to 65536 kB.
  5. Click Apply and OK.
  6. Now go to MS folder in dgVoodoo's directory and copy D3DImm.dll and DDraw.dll.
  7. Go to the <path-to-game>\ and paste the files in there.

Low textures in cockpit view

Instructions[citation needed]

Running game in vista (no service pack) + administrator compatibility should do the trick.

(Fan Patch) Game crashes when entering menu

Remove save files[citation needed]
  1. Go to the save game data location.
  2. Remove all the files in the folder.
  3. Start a game.

Crash when loading a map

Copy files from CD and install Fan Patch[citation needed]
  1. Go to a root folder of the CD.
  2. Copy FEData and GameData from the CD to <path-to-game>
  3. Install fan patch.
  4. Try running a game. If it crashes when entering menu, delete save files - see (Fan Patch) Game crashes when entering menu.

Notes

Remember to install fan patch after copying FEData and GameData, otherwise - some of the files will be overwritten and a game may not work properly.

Missing file: mrbupd.dll

Copy mrbupd.dll from the CD[citation needed]
  1. Go to the root folder of the CD.
  2. Copy mrbupd.dll to <path-to-game>

Unable to open file install.txt

Copy install.txt from the CD[citation needed]
  1. Go to the root folder of the CD.
  2. Copy install.txt to <path-to-game>

Random crashes

Add EmulateHeap[citation needed]
  1. Go to nGlide compatibility page.
  2. Find Need For Speed 5: Porsche Unleashed on the list and download a fix for it.
  3. Extract the fix and run PatchInstall.bat to apply the EmulateHeap attribute.

Notes

Do not run nfs5.reg unless using the nGlide wrapper for this game.

Normandie crash

Use fan patch[citation needed]
Turn off Lens flare[citation needed]
  1. In game, go to Options.
  2. Go to Graphics tab and go to Advanced Settings.
  3. Turn off Lens flare.

Notes

If turning off Lens Flare doesn't do the trick, turn off the rear view mirror as well (F6 in race).
Replace the skybox file[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\GameData\Track\Sky
  2. Rename Farmland.bin to Farmland_backup.bin.
  3. Make a copy of Forest.bin and name that copy Farmland.bin.
