Version differences

The original 1987 "EGA" release employs AGI engine and has a text-based interface. The game runs in 16 colors with PC-speaker sound.

The 1991 "VGA" remake employs SCI engine and has an icon-based point-and-click interface. The game has updated graphics and new soundtrack. It runs in 256 colors and supports multiple soundcards.

The GOG.com re-release is based on the 1997 Leisure Suit Larry: Collection Series. It includes the series' "carnal" predecessor Softporn Adventure, as well as all the main games:

Essential improvements

Higher quality music in EGA version

This fix is for the GOG.com re-release of the original EGA version. It will enable MIDI music in place of the default 3-voice Tandy sound.

Change the sound device in ScummVM configuration file^{[citation needed]}

Edit the file <path-to-game>\lsl1.ini.
In the [scummvm] section look for the following line and change it accordingly:

music_driver=windows

This fix is for the original DOS EGA release. It will enable MIDI music in place of the default 1-voice PC-speaker sound.

Run the game in ScummVM^{[citation needed]}
After adding the game to the ScummVM library, go to sound options by clicking Edit Game and then the Audio tab. Put a check on Override global audio settings. In the Music device field change the driver from default to Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth [Windows MIDI]. Click OK.

The original release has no configuration file. RESOURCE.CFG is used by the VGA remake.

The GOG.com re-release uses ScummVM configuration file: lsl1.ini for the EGA version, and lsl1sci.ini for the VGA remake.

It's unknown whether this game follows the XDG Base Directory Specification on Linux. Please fill in this information.

In the original release saves are labeled LLLLLSG.*, while in the VGA remake LSL1SG.*.

Issues fixed

Stuck at the intro / Can't start a new game or load a saved game

Due to its "adult" nature, the game uses a period-correct trivia quiz to verify the user's age. These questions have to be answered every time the game is launched.

The GOG.com re-release provides only some answers to the EGA version.

Use a cheat code^{[citation needed]}
After you input your age, on the screen with the first question, use the following key combination to skip the quiz: `Alt`+`X` - in the original release `Alt`+`Ctrl`+`X` - in the VGA remake
