Gotham City Impostors is a multiplayer FPS game.

Windows

Version Differences

Gotham City Impostors uses Games For Windows Live (GFWL) in addition to Steam. It is possible to play the game without launching Steam. However, GFWL is used for matchmaking and is required at all times.

Serial Key

A serial key needs to be inputted into Games For Windows Live (GFWL) no matter which store the game is bought from.

Issues And Fixes

Matchmaking Issues

This is reportedly fixed in a patch.[1]

It is possible that opening the Xbox Live standard ports will allow matchmaking to work better.[2]

Performance And FPS Slowdown

Run Outside Of Steam

It's possible to run the game outside of Steam, which allows the game to benefit from not running the overlay.

Go to: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\gotham city impostors\Impostors.exe

Run the game from Impostors.exe instead of Steam.

Setting Process Affinity To High Priority

Once the game is running, it is possible to set the game to run at a higher affinity.

Whilst running the game, open task manager and set the Engine.exe and Impostors.exe affinity to 'high'.

Installation Problems

Run External Installers

Running the external installers (following the main game installation) may resolve a number of issues. Run the following installers:

...\steamapps\common\gotham city imposter\redist\directX\DXSETUP.exe

...\steamapps\common\gotham city imposter\redist\GFWL\Gfwlivesetup.exe

...\steamapps\common\gotham city imposter\redist\visualStudio\vcredist_x86.exe

Reboot your computer and test any issues again.

Windows XP Problem

This issue may occur whilst using Windows XP.[3]

  1. Exit Steam.
  2. Go to the "Start" menu, select "Run", type "regedit" and click "OK".
  3. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VALVE
  4. Right click and select "Permissions"
  5. Check the "Allow" boxes for "Admin" and "System" for both "Full control" and "Read".

Field Of Vision (FOV) Fixes

This game has received a number of fixes through a patch, including an FOV slider.[4]
