Template:Audio settings

Restore hardware sound

Hardware sound has been disabled in the initial release of Giants due to performance issues at the time. On some systems, this may not be an issue and you may see an improvement in sound quality with this option if your sound card supports EAX. This will also restore occlusion and reverb audio options in-game.
GOG.com or retail version
  1. Download the missing files here.
  2. Extract gs_ds.dll, and all .EAL files to the <path-to-game>.
  3. Start the game with -snd3d argument

Notes

Install the unofficial 1.5 patch first, if you want to use it.
Retail version only
  1. Be sure to install the 1.4 Patch with eax support (Version 1.4 w/ EAX)
  2. From CD1, Copy all *.EAL files from the EAL folder inside the <path-to-game>
  3. Start the game with -snd3d argument

Issues fixed

Imported savegames are not recognized

Create an empty savegame first[3]
  1. Start a new game (no progress is needed).
  2. Close the game.
  3. Go to <path-to-game>/savegame/SaveGame0, and overwrite mission.sav with your backup mission.sav.
You can make a backup of the game's configuration by exporting the corresponding registry key, see configuration file(s) location

Other information

Remove censorship

Delphi was originally going to be topless, as evidenced by early trailers and the boxart, however she wears a bikini in the final game.
Create empty file[4]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\bin
  2. Delete or rename arpfix.gzp.
  3. Start the game.

Notes

Delphi will still wear a bikini during the loading screen.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/557750/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (557750) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
  2. When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
