Essential improvements

Run without Steam

The Revision mod officially requires the Steam version of Deus Ex.[1] However, it is possible to play Deus Ex Revision with a non-Steam version of the original game, by adding parameters in the executable target:
Create a link of the executable[2]
  • Run <path-to-game>\System\deusex.exe with the command line arguments -localdata -INI=Revision.ini -USERINI=RevisionUser.ini
  • If you encounter an issue with the above arguments, replace it with -localdata -INI=RevisionDefault.ini -USERINI=RevisionDefUser.ini

Windowed

This fix makes the game start in windowed mode rather than fullscreen, so tools like Borderless Gaming can work properly.
Set windowed mode[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\System\
  2. Edit Revision.ini.
  3. Find the section [WinDrvLite.WindowsClientLite]
  4. Change StartupFullscreen=True to StartupFullscreen=False
  5. Save and close the file

Anisotropic filtering (AF)

The game defaults to 16x anisotropic filtering. This value can be modified.
Change AF value[3]
  1. In-game, press ~.
  2. Enter preferences.
  3. A window called Advanced Options will appear.
  4. Go to Rendering > Direct3D9 support
  5. Change the value of MaxAnisotropy to the desired value.
  6. Close the window to apply changes.

Anti-aliasing (AA)

The game uses MSAA and defaults to a value of 8x. This value can be modified.
Change AA value[3]
  1. In-game, press ~.
  2. Enter preferences.
  3. A window called Advanced Options will appear.
  4. Go to Rendering > Direct3D9 support
  5. Change the value of NumAASamples to the desired value.
  6. Close the window to apply changes.

Frame rate (FPS)

The game defaults to an uncapped FPS. If needed, a FPS cap can be applied.
Change FPS value[3]
  1. In-game, press ~.
  2. Enter preferences.
  3. A window called Advanced Options will appear.
  4. Go to Rendering > Direct3D9 support
  5. Change the value of FrameRateLimit to the desired value.
  6. Close the window to apply changes.

Notes

A value of 0 uncaps FPS.

Issues fixed

Cannot set FOV using in-game settings

If the game's FOV cannot be set using the in-game options menu, you may need to disable the game renderer's auto-FOV setting.
Disable Auto-FOV[2]
  1. In-game, press ~.
  2. Enter preferences.
  3. A window called Advanced Options will appear.
  4. Go to Rendering > Direct3D9 support
  5. Set autofov to false.
  6. Close the window to apply changes.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/397550/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (397550) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
