Essential improvements

DXVK

A Vulkan-based translation layer for Direct3D 9/10/11 intended for allowing 3D applications to run on Linux.
Compatible on all operating systems as long as the GPU supports Vulkan.
Fixes all performance problems with Crazy Taxi, maintaining a consistent frame-rate throughout.[3]
DXVK
  1. Download DXVK here.
  2. Extract the contents of the dxvk-*.tar.gz file with 7zip or WinRAR.
  3. Copy d3d9.dll from the x32 folder and paste it in the game's installation folder.

Issues fixed

Configuration tool does not save settings

The Steam version's configuration tool does not save settings properly, and the Dreamcast Collection version's configuration tool does not write a new configuration file if one is missing without re-installing the game.
Steam version: Add key through Registry Editor[6]
  1. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
  2. Check if you have a folder named SEGA on it. If you don't, right click on Uninstall, click New, then Key and name it SEGA.
  3. Right-click SEGA, click New, then Key and name it Crazy Taxi.
  4. Right-click the newly created Crazy Taxi and click New, then String Value, and name it Crazy Taxi.
  5. Double-click the Crazy Taxi string and change the value to 1.
Dreamcast Collection version: create the configuration file manually[6]
  1. Check if you have a series of folders from %USERPROFILE%\Documents that goes up to SEGA\Dreamcast Collection\Crazy Taxi. If not, create a new folder in %USERPROFILE%\Documents and name it SEGA.
  2. Go into the SEGA, right-click and select New → Folder, and name it Dreamcast Collection.
  3. Go into the Dreamcast Collection folder, right-click and select New → Folder, and name it Crazy Taxi.
  4. Go into the Crazy Taxi folder, create a new text file and name it config.ini.
  5. Open the config.ini file you created with a text editor, and then paste the following into this file:
    [Crazy Taxi]
    COLOURMODE=1
    CONTROL2P_INDEX=1
    CONTROL2P_TYPE=3
    CONTROL_ACCELERATE=5
    CONTROL_BRAKE=4
    CONTROL_DESTINATION=2
    CONTROL_DOWN=33
    CONTROL_DRIVE=1
    CONTROL_HORN=3
    CONTROL_INDEX=0
    CONTROL_LEFT=34
    CONTROL_REVERSE=0
    CONTROL_RIGHT=35
    CONTROL_START=7
    CONTROL_TYPE=3
    CONTROL_UP=32
    DRAW_DISTANCE=1
    FULL_SCREEN=0
    LANGUAGE=0
    RESOLUTION=4
    SHADOW=1

  6. Save the file (File → Save or Ctrl+S) in this location. The Dreamcast Collection version's configuration tool should be able to read and write the configuration files again.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/71230/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (71230) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
