These two patches are around 300MB in size.
Mods and skins
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is packed full of user-designed mods and skins making the game more versatile. A lot of people wrongfully believe that the Golden gun is a custom skin, but in reality it is unlocked by completing achievements.
Issues and fixes
Missing d3dx9_43.dll or similar .dll file
Update or install DirectX.
Game won't start on Windows 7
On some PCs the sound driver makes the game crash before it starts. To prevent this simply plug anything in the microphone input or go in control > sound > recording and enable stereo mix. You may need to right click and "Show disabled devices" for it to show up.
Tweaks
Game is highly customizable by using console commands. You can enable console in game's options.
Show FPS Counter
- Enable console in options
- Press tilde (~)
- Type in /cg_drawFPS 1
Unlock FPS
- Enable console in options
- Press tilde (~)
- Type in /com_maxFPS 250 - for 250FPS
Please note that on some servers it forbbiden to have more than 250FPS locked and you might get kicked/banned by server admins. The reason for this is that on a higher framerate the character can jump higher, leading to game exploits.
Modify Field of View (multiplayer)
- Go to the directory with your in-game profile (i.e. RockBlock72, HowdyDoody45, DerpFerp19)
This can be found at:
Local Disk (C:)\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players\profiles\Your Username(for example Rawk Hawk 1234, XxXTripleKillzXxX, JichaelMacksonGoop 56, etc.)
- When inside your profile directory, open the .cfg file titled "config_mp".
REMINDER: Make a backup file of your .cfg before you edit the command lines.
- Use CTRL + F and type in "fov" to quickly locate the command line with field of view in it. (For those of you using Notepad ++, it's the 66th line, assuming you haven't added or removed any command lines).
- Delete the numerical value inside of seta cg_fov "65" so that no numerical value is displayed inside of the quotation marks.
- Insert a custom variable inside the quotation marks to reflect the desired field of view (e.g. seta cg_fov "90" to set field of view to 90).
- Save your changes and exit the file.
An alternative method to edit your field of view is through in-game console commands.
- To bring up the console, you must first enable it within the options menu located within the game options section.
- Press the tilde key (~) and the in-game console will appear.
- Type in /cg_fov XX when XX is your desired field of view (e.g. /cg_fov 80 for a field of view of 80).
- Press enter to activate the console command and press tilde (~) again to close the console.
These commands need to be repeated upon each individual launch of the multiplayer game in order to modify your field of view, assuming you didn't edit the multiplayer.cfg.
