Patches

All of the following are located in the Downloads section of Terra Arcanum (note that Terra Arcanum is an unstable website and it may not be possible to download from them. The patches have been mirrored in the file forum).

  • Official Patch v1.0.7.4 - Download
    • Not required for GOG.com release.
  • Unofficial Patch v091225 by Drog Black Tooth - Download
    • Bug-fixes, cut content. Highly recommended
  • High Resolution Patch v1.1a by Drog Black Tooth - Download
    • Allows any user-set resolution, UI tweaks, larger fonts.
  • Enable complex shadows - Download
    • Enables high quality, complex shadows.

Issues and Fixes

Installation

It's recommended you do not use the default installation directory, located in the \Program Files directory, as this can lead to issues where certain files are not properly installed. When running the installer, be sure to right-click on the .exe, and select "Run as Administrator".

Freezes on Loading Screen

Known to happen on systems with multi-core CPUs. Setting CPU affinity should solve this problem. Create a shortcut, and in the shortcut's "Target" field, insert the following: 

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start "ARCANUM" /D "C:\ARCANUM" /high /affinity 1 "C:\ARCANUM\arcanum.exe"

Be sure to replace "C:\ARCANUM" with your actual Arcanum installation directory. If needed, you can add additional command-line parameters to the end.

Graphical Issues

  • Try adding "-no3d -doublebuffer" to the end of your Arcanum shortcut's "Target" field.
  • If a file named "ddraw.dll" is located in your Arcanum installation directory, try renaming that file to "ddraw.dll.old".
