Essential improvements

Patches

Patch v1.3 updates the game to the latest version.
Although the Steam version says v1.2 in the main menu, it is different from the retail v1.2 patch and has proper widescreen resolution support and some other changes compared to v1.3, updating the Steam version from its default v1.2 to v1.3 is not recommended.[citation needed][3]

Edit Video.cfg[4]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\Mods\Bos\Settings and open Video.cfg with a notepad.
  2. In Video.cfg, change:
    Height_Release = XXXX.000000;
    Width_Release = XXXX.000000;

    To the desired resolution. Example:

    Height_Release = 2160.000000;
    Width_Release = 3840.000000;

  3. After changing the resolution, exit and save the config. Right-click the config and click "properties" and change the file to "read-only" so the game doesn't change the resolution while playing.

Field of view (FOV)

Edit GamePlay.cfg[5]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\Mods\Bos\Tuning and open GamePlay.cfg with a notepad.
  2. Define FOV in the following lines:
    GameFovView1				=  XX.X
    GameFovView2				=	 XX.X
    GameFovShieldOn			=	 XX.X
    ExoFovFirstPerson		= XX.X

  3. Change XX.X to the desired FOV.
  4. After changing the FOV, exit and save the config. Right-click the config and click "properties" and change the file to "read-only" so the game doesn't change the FOV while playing.

Notes

GameFovView1 controls standard field of view. GameFovView2 controls zoom/aim FOV. GameFovShieldOn controls zoom/aim FOV when using a shield. ExoFovFirstPerson controls the field of view when controlling a exo/mech suit.

Notes

  1. This version of StarForce DRM does not work on Windows 8.1, Windows 10, or Windows 11.[1][2] For supported versions of Windows the StarForce driver may need to be updated manually using SFUPDATE.
  2. 2.0 2.1 When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  3. 3.0 3.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/335320/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (335320) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
