Black outline of North America

Download most recent drivers[citation needed]
  1. Download your most recent graphics drivers.

Black or wrong flags

Delete the gfx folder[10]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Delete the gfx folder.
  3. Launch the game.

Alt-tabbing out and back in changes system resolution (Linux)

Since the introduction of the new launcher, alt-tabbing out of the game and back into it changes the system resolution and consequently makes the game unplayable. This can be prevented by bypassing the launcher via a terminal command.
Launch the game without the launcher via the command line[citation needed]
  1. Execute <path-to-game>/eu4 -skiplauncher
  2. To enable mods, add -mod=$MOD where $MOD is the filename of the mod you want to enable.
  3. To disable DLC, add -exclude_dlx=$DLC where $DLC is the filename of the piece of DLC you want to disable.
Use a third-party launcher[citation needed]
  1. Download PyParadox following the installation instructions here.
  2. The dependencies are pip and PyQt5. They are installed with sudo apt-get install python3-pip python3-pyqt5.
  3. The launcher itself is installed with sudo pip3 install pyparadox.
  4. The launcher can be run with pyparadox-qt eu4.
  5. To tell Steam to use the new launcher:
    1. Right-click on Europa Universalis IV.
    2. Click on Properties.
    3. Click on Set launch options... in the General tab.
    4. Enter pyparadox-qt eu4 %command%.

Notes

If your version of Linux has significantly newer libraries than the Steam Runtime, the launcher may not apply the correct Qt theme.

  1. Verified by User:An_dz on 2021-12-26
Tested by running the game without EGS installed and blocking internet connection, which resulted in the game hanging indefinitely in the splash screen. Running with internet automatically opens the web browser requesting to connect your Epic account with the game. It does not seem possible to run the game offline.
  2. Verified by User:An_dz on 2021-12-26
Tested by running the game through EGS which resulted in a silent install of Paradox Launcher. Running the executable directly won't install the Paradox Launcher and the game won't complain if it's not installed.

"The game allows up to 256 players to participate in the same multiplayer game, but that limit is usually only tenable on a high-speed local area network (LAN). Paradox suggests games played over the Internet are likely to only support up to 12 players."
