Crysis Remastered is a singleplayer FPS developed by Crytek and Saber Interactive. It is a remaster of the original Crysis based on the console versions of the game from 2011, rather than the original PC release from 2007.[2] It is also the first release in the series that is not published by Electronic Arts, instead being self-published by Crytek.

The game uses Crytek's CryEngine, a standard for the series, with new features such as hardware ray tracing, higher resolution textures, improved particle effects and global illumination.[3] A future-proof "Can It Run Crysis" graphics preset is also present, making reference to a phrase that became popular around the original 2007 release because of its highly demanding nature on PC hardware at the time.[4]

Crysis Remastered released on September 18, 2020 for Windows exclusively on the Epic Games Store. It was originally set to release on July 23, 2020, but was delayed to allow for further improvement due to negative online feedback following the leak of a gameplay trailer.[5] The Epic Games Store exclusivity ended on September 17, 2021, when it was released on Steam as well. On September 30, 2021, it released on Origin and was added to the EA Play subscription service.

Being based on the console port of Crysis, the remaster was launched lacking some features of the original PC release, such as the level "Ascension" and the multiplayer mode.[2][6] A number of control options including leaning and suit shortcuts were missing at release[7][8] but later restored in an update.[9] Later updates to the game also improved performance and restored the cut "Ascension" level.[10][11]

In February 2022 a final update was released for the game that brought significant performance improvements,[12] with Digital Foundry noting a 79% performance improvement in one scene compared to the original release version.[13]

This game uses vertical FOV. See FOV Calculator for help.
Edit configuration files[16]
  1. Create autoexec.cfg file in the installation folder and open it with a text editor.
  2. Add lines con_restricted=0 (if not existing) and cl_fov= followed by a desired FOV value.

Disable depth of field[16]
  1. Create autoexec.cfg file in the installation folder and open it with a text editor.
  2. Add lines con_restricted=0 (if not existing) and r_depthoffield=0.

Issues fixed

Low performance with CPU and GPU usage below 100%

Due to a conflict with Windows 10 v2004, CryEngine games may sometimes run at a low frame rate or cap the frame rate below the monitor refresh rate despite not using all available system resources.[22][23][24]
Most likely that the underlying issue has been fixed through later Windows 10 updates.[Note 2]
Change Vsync in the graphics card control panel[22][25]
  1. Add "Crysis Remastered" to the graphics card control panel if the profile does not exist already.
  2. Change the profile's Vsync setting
    • For Nvidia, change the Vsync setting to Fast and apply.
    • For AMD, enable Radeon Enhanced Sync and apply. If this doesn't work, enable Radeon Anti-Lag and apply.

Ray tracing affecting performance when disabled

Ray tracing may be still running in the game despite being disabled in the graphics settings.
Workaround: changing graphics settings to make sure[26][27]
Might have to be done after every time any settings were changed as that can possibly re-enable ray tracing.[28]
  1. Open the in-game advanced graphics settings.
  2. Set Shaders Quality to High and Raytracing Quality to Performance and apply.
  3. Set Raytracing Quality to Off and apply.
  4. Set Shaders Quality to Medium or Low and apply.

Poor ray tracing performance on RTX GPUs

Enable hardware accelerated ray tracing[26]
The game might not automatically detect an RTX card due to a bug and might thus not utilize RT cores to accelerate ray tracing, resulting in impaired performance when ray tracing is enabled.[29]
  1. Create autoexec.cfg file in the installation folder and open it with a text editor.
  2. Add lines con_restricted=0 (if not existing) and ti_UseApiBackedRaytracing=1.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/1715130/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (1715130) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
  2. As issue doesn't seem to get raised anymore really, even Crysis' Discord last mention of this fix is from April 2022 and before that it wasn't mentioned for like almost a year....

Only indirect evidence for this: Steam store page does not list Denuvo as DRM and executable is much smaller than other games that utilize Denuvo.

"it's because of the new windows 2004 update. it seems like it kinda broke all pre cryengine 5 games. it limits them to around 60fps. for Nvidia gpu's, you need to go to your Nvidia control panel, and manage 3d settings, and under program settings, find whichever crysis you're playing and set Vsync to fast."
