Borderless fullscreen windowed

The game comes with a configuration setting that says "Run in Fullscreen mode", checked by default. While unchecking this option implies windowed mode, the actual result is the following:

  • The game runs at full desktop resolution, as if it was Borderless Windowed.
  • If it is a widescreen aspect, the game stretches with distortion.

Issues fixed

Game does not start or stuck in blackscreen without responding

Run PR2.exe in compatibility mode for Windows 98 / Me, with disabled display scaling and as administrator.[citation needed]
Don't use GOG DirectX Wrapper

GOG version of game comes with its customized DirectX wrapper to 'improve' compatibility. However the wrapper acturally makes it even less compatible on some hardware, especially for Intel GPU.[citation needed]

  • Remove d3d8.dll in game folder and then try to launch. Now game uses the native DX8 and works well on some devices.
  • If the game still cannot start, another way is D8VK. Download D8VK 1.0 from this link, extract d3d8.dll to game folder. Create a new text file dxvk.conf in game folder and write d3d8.managedBufferPlacement = False into it, then the game will use D8VK and works well on most devices.[2]

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/12470/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (12470) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
