Essential improvements[edit]

Higher resolution models[edit]

Information These enhancements are significantly more performance intensive. Ensure your PC is significantly more powerful than the recommended system specifications to ensure there is no loss of performance.

Fix Full resolution models

  1. Open the local.ini file in the Dawn of War file folder.
  2. Add the following line to the file: fullres_teamcolour=1
  3. Save and close the file.

Fix High Poly Models

  1. See Command line arguments.
  2. Add -forcehighpoly

Widescreen resolution[edit]

Disadvantage This fix works only for versions 1.2 and 1.3. This will NOT work for Steam version because it is patched to 1.51. You can still use this fix and get game run in your native resolution, but game will be in 4:3 with black bars on sides.

Fix Widescreen resolution

  1. Download and apply patch 1.3 from Widescreen Gaming Forum.
  2. Run game at least once to generate .ini file.
  3. Navigate to installation folder and open Local.ini.
  4. Locate lines screenheight=xxxx and screenwidth=xxxx and change it to your desired resolution.
Advantage This fix works for the latest version of DoW.
Disadvantage The minimap becomes half unusable with this fix. Also, editing the binaries might trigger anti-cheat protection.

Fix Widescreen resolution[1]

  1. Run game at least once to generate .ini file.
  2. Navigate to installation folder and open Local.ini.
  3. Locate lines screenheight=xxxx and screenwidth=xxxx and change it to your desired resolution (some people claim that rounding out these values, e.g. 1366x768 -> 1360x760, fixes the minimap issue, but I haven't been able to replicate this).
  4. Download any Hex Editor.
  5. Open W40k.exe with your Hex Editor of choice and find ABAAAA3F.
  6. Replace it with 398EE33F for 16:9 or CCCCCD3F for 16:10.
  7. Repeat for Platform.dll, spDx9.dll and finally for UserInterface.dll (you will find two occurences in this last file, replace them both).

Field of view (FOV)[edit]

Advantage This fix will greatly enhance zoom capabilities.

Fix Field of view (FOV)

  1. Download Camera Zoom Mod.
  2. Copy .lua file to Dawn of War\Engine\Data\

Anti-aliasing (AA)[edit]

Disadvantage Forcing AA will render fonts blurry and harder to read.
Advantage Forcing AA via graphics driver will result in greater AA. INI fix is probably only 2x AA.

Fix Anti-aliasing (AA)

  1. Run game at least once to generate .ini file.
  2. Navigate to installation folder and open Local.ini.
  3. Locate line screenantialias=0 and change it to screenantialias=1.

Vertical sync (Vsync)[edit]

Fix Enable vsync

  1. Run game at least once to generate .ini file.
  2. Navigate to installation folder and open Local.ini.
  3. Locate line screennovsync=0 and change it to screennovsync=1.
