Availability[edit]
Essential improvements[edit]
Higher resolution models[edit]
These enhancements are significantly more performance intensive. Ensure your PC is significantly more powerful than the recommended system specifications to ensure there is no loss of performance.
|
Full resolution models
- Open the
local.ini file in the Dawn of War file folder.
- Add the following line to the file:
fullres_teamcolour=1
- Save and close the file.
|
|
Fix crash on startup (Steam)
- Goto the game install directory.
- Right click on the "W40k.exe" and click properties.
- Click Compatibility, then check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and click "Windows 98/ME"
- Click Apply
|
|
High Poly Models (non-Steam)
- Right-click on your shortcut for Dawn of War.
- A menu will pop up, select the "properties" option.
- Find the box that is labelled "target".
- It should already say something like "C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War\w40k.exe". Add -forcehighpoly after that line. If there are quotation marks present make sure to add it outside of those marks.
- Click Apply/OK.
|
|
High Poly Models (Steam)
- Find Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Soulstorm in your Steam Library
- Right-click the game name
- Select
Properties
- Select
Set Launch Options...
- Input
-forcehighpoly
- Press
OK
- Launch the game

This fix works only for versions 1.2 and 1.3. This will NOT work for Steam version because it is patched to 1.51. You can still use this fix and get game run in your native resolution, but game will be in 4:3 with black bars on sides.
|
Widescreen resolution
- Download and apply patch 1.3 from Widescreen Gaming Forum.
- Run game at least once to generate .ini file.
- Navigate to installation folder and open
Local.ini.
- Locate lines
screenheight=xxxx and screenwidth=xxxx and change it to your desired resolution. |
This fix works for the latest version of DoW.
The minimap becomes half unusable with this fix. Also, editing the binaries might trigger anti-cheat protection.
|
Widescreen resolution
- Run game at least once to generate .ini file.
- Navigate to installation folder and open
Local.ini.
- Locate lines
screenheight=xxxx and screenwidth=xxxx and change it to your desired resolution (some people claim that rounding out these values, e.g. 1366x768 -> 1360x760, fixes the minimap issue, but I haven't been able to replicate this).
- Download any Hex Editor.
- Open
W40k.exe with your Hex Editor of choice and find ABAAAA3F.
- Replace it with
398EE33F for 16:9 or CCCCCD3F for 16:10.
- Repeat for
Platform.dll, spDx9.dll and finally for UserInterface.dll (you will find two occurences in this last file, replace them both). |
This fix will greatly enhance zoom capabilities.
|
Field of view (FOV)
- Download Camera Zoom Mod.
- Copy .lua file to
Dawn of War\Engine\Data\ |
Forcing AA will render fonts blurry and harder to read.
Forcing AA via graphics driver will result in greater AA. INI fix is probably only 2x AA.
|
Anti-aliasing (AA)
- Run game at least once to generate .ini file.
- Navigate to installation folder and open
Local.ini.
- Locate line
screenantialias=0 and change it to screenantialias=1. |
|
Enable vsync
- Run game at least once to generate .ini file.
- Navigate to installation folder and open
Local.ini.
- Locate line
screennovsync=0 and change it to screennovsync=1. |
