High Framerate tweak - user.ini doesn't exist for me

Supposedly you can disable the 30fps lock by modifying a file named "user.ini", but I don't have any files in:

My Documents\My Games\South Park - The Stick of Truth

There's just a subfolder with the saves. Has anyone confirmed that this works? I didn't see a source for the tweak.

There are some config files in the game's Steam folder which look like they can be modified. However, I saw nothing related to vsync or framerate there :/

Interesting. Can you try add vsync to other .ini files and see if it works? Also can you try to create the user.ini file manually? Here is my own user.ini file:

there are about three different .ini files but they are in your steam library folder, not your user folder. edit: sorry i did not read through the page and your comments carefully, adding the vsync=0 to my engine.ini and config.ini files unlocked the framerate but that also meant I was getting around 200 fps. The games engine also seems to be hardset on 30 fps since the npcs go crazy at that high fps.

JPulowski (talkcontribs)

Actually, no. I did some testing and when vertical sync forced off completely some issues occur, yes. vsync setting also controls the frame rate. Therefore disabling it then forcing hardware vertical sync via video driver is the best way to get high frame rate.

Sk3pt1kal (talkcontribs)

hmm, no luck, at least not with my amd card, maybe this works with nvidia. too bad, the 30 fps is really jarring in some spots.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

This and this should help you
Anyway please, stop advising v-sync to limit framerate. Use the proper tools, and you'll avoid additional microstuttering and input lag

Back to this game.. I wouldn't say it's hackable.. it can't simply run at 120FPS w/o issues. So it's only a palliative
And then.. are you sure that running the game at 60FPS (I suppose that's your monitor refresh rate) is still flawless? I mean.. It seems weird developers capped the game to half the supported speed... even though it could only be a leftover of the console versions

JPulowski (talkcontribs)

I think the main reason developers capped the frame rate is the default video driver setting is "Use 3D application settings" and without a frame rate limit the game is not playable. I can confirm that the game is not clearly optimized for HFR. I did not notice any major issues during gameplay but something kind of felt off. Maybe because I am used to watching South Park at 23 - 30 fps.

I think there is no need to remove the instructions to enable HFR, at least for now. Like I said after disabling in-game vsync and enabling hardware v-sync the game is playable. But I'd be happy if you guys could add the issues you have experienced when playing with HFR. The only issue I have noticed with v-sync completely disabled is the main character cannot move.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

Well.. first i think it's a bit weird the character can't be moved.. I mean.. that's not one of the issues you would expect from HFR mode

Then.. would you mind capping framerate with proper tools?
It would be way better if we could understand the actual problems threshold instead of simply recommending: force "hardware" vsync

Mars icecream (talkcontribs)

I didn't have it either initially at first, I'm not sure if the file was added after first boot or later.

"Ordinary" borderless fullscreen methods don't work consistently, sometimes the window can be resized. Tested with the PCGW Autohotkey script.
