The article had been referring to a post on my blog, SimTarkus, as proof of the Origin Store version (also used by EA Play now) being fixed from its previous unpatched/unpatchable state in which it was permanently locked to Version 1.1.610. However, I edited that particular post back in 2017 with an update, when it was discovered that Origin had, once again, reverted back to the "nerfed" Version 1.1.610, apparently, per the file date, all the way back in November 2015.
No idea if this was simply an error, or if they decided to revert to their old ways once PC Gamer was no longer holding their feet to the flames.
I've just edited things here to clarify that the Origin Store version is no longer patched, and now that EA Play is a thing, I've noted that it is also true there, too.
