No issues on newer AMD drivers

Rage (as well every OpenGL/id Tech 5 game) is famous for terrible performance and loads of issues in AMD hardware.

Since Radeon driver 22.7.1, AMD rebuilt their OpenGL driver from the ground up, delivering better performance and stability in all games that use this API.

I'm playing this game right now with driver 23.5.2 and the game is working perfectly. I'm even playing the 32-bits version (without mods), and everything is running fine.

Have anyone tested out newer drivers and got success playing this too? If yes I think it's valid to clarify this on the "Regular crashes with ATI/AMD desktop and mobile graphics" topic of the issues unresolved of this game.

The same goes for Wolfenstein Old Blood. It uses the same engine and renderer and had the same issues. Now it works perfectly, but Wolfenstein New Order still works bad for some reason and recently I found some new parameters for id5tweaker config to run it better (although still not perfect).

Be aware that the new OpenGL driver introduced in 22.7.1 work only for Polaris cards and newer (RX 4XX and up). Older GCNs still uses older OGL driver and are affected by bad performance in OGL to this day. The new driver is simply incompatible with older cards. E g. you'll break your driver installation if you use them among many of custom Amernime Drivers options.

Yes, that's correct. I forgot that AMD pulled pre-Polaris cards from official support before this driver released.

While that is true i'm constantly getting out of memory errors. Edit1 nvm, i fixed it myself. edit2 it happens at the beginning of every load but as long as you don't change the graphics and keep play with "vt_maxPPF 128" and "vt_uncompressedPhysicalImages 0" in id5Tweaker Config you should be good. and not having a texture cache folder also seems to help.

Hello it is me again, I have solved the issue: my monitor is 144hz therefore I have set id5tweaker's fpslimit to also be 144fps... but if I reduce it to 142fps, the crash is solved... I have a Freesync monitor so I can use any arbitary framerate, but people with fixed refresh rate monitors might have to settle for i.e. 120hz, or turn vsync off

But it seems to be beneficial to lower the fpslimit to match what FPS the game is actually hitting, id5tweaker's fpslimit is actually more like a 'fpstarget' , the game engine seems to adjust timings etc to try to reach the fps, and if it cannot reach it, it will cause microstuttering... in most areas of the game I am getting over 100fps, but I find that limiting the FPS to 90 actually feels smoother because the microstuttering is gone

Only true lag-free v-sync?

@Andytizer do you still experience any troubles with the game?

unfortunately i can't test the game any longer, but in my opinion all the problems had been fixed with game patches, with newer AMD driver or by disabling filters forcing

Just one thing, because it struck me as odd. "All versions require Steam, including both retail and digital distribution."

If so, what's up with "Retail configuration files location" and rageconfig.cfg for retail? Did Bethesda happen to release some Steamless version, recently? Or does this have something to do with Rage Tool Kit? Or...?

Yes, but from all of that - I'm wondering mostly about Retail configuration files location on PCGW, which says that configuration files are located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda\id Software\RAGE\. A game is never installed in there, unless a user deliberately does so in Steam. That's why I'm wondering if there was a DRM-Free version of RAGE released recently (as far as I know, there wasn't), because otherwise, the only guess I have, is that it that this is a location, where a cracked/pirated version is installed by default, since - to my knowledge - there isn't a "Steamless" version of the game.

Garrett (talkcontribs)

I've removed the retail path since as you say this could only be a pirated version or customised location. This will be the case for almost all retail Steamworks games, with rare exceptions like Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition (retail can be installed with or without Steam).
