I am experiencing a very annoying bug with shadows. No matter what settings or API are - in many places (apparently not all) they flicker madly while rotating the camera. No compatibility settings or wrappers (dgvoodoo2, DXVK) managed to affect the issue. Older drivers did nothing as well (gtx 1060). The best place to observe the issue is the respawn house in the first village. Staying at the door outside, during the daytime, right after being instructed by Dennis about the map. Look at the grass under the big tree to the right and the tree itself. For some reason, I cant post youtube links here. Search for "farcry3 SHADOW BUG" and "far cry 3 shadow flickering problem" on Youtube, they will show the issue well. The issue seems to be known for a very long time and is common for the Dunia2 engine: I am really wondered that the issue is nowhere to be found here.

Got an odd question. Glide 3.1 is listed under APIs: https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Far_Cry#API

Does anyone have a source for where this came from? As far as I can tell the game doesn't support Glide or Voodoo cards at all.

The article says the game has native support for Vsync, but the in-game Vsync option does nothing for me. I can enable it and still get 1200 frames per second and screen tearing. I'm not sure if this is because I'm using Windows 7 (64 bit), or because I have an AMD graphics card (HD 7950), so I'm not sure what the article should say about it. I'm assuming Vsync works for someone, because this fairly comprehensive article says nothing about it being broken. Maybe someone who knows more about the game could look into this.

Have you overridden Vsync behaviour in the Catalyst Control Center? That's one cause of Vsync not working in games (I don't have this specific game to test).

Outoflives (talkcontribs)

Vsync in Catalyst Control Center is set to "Off, unless application specifies" (which is the default setting). Changing it to "Always on" doesn't help with Far Cry (just as it doesn't help with many other games). I was able to force Vsync in Far Cry using D3DOverrider (but then the game stutters a lot). I tried using RadeonPro as well, and had some success, but using RadeonPro at all seems to cause the game to crash when I quit. I should also mention that I have been using the Steam version of the game (which claims to be v1.40). After installing the 64-bit Upgrade Patch, in-game Vsync remains broken and not even D3DOverrider or RadeonPro will help.

Strange. I never had this problem when I tested the game on my 570 last year.

Try setting a framerate cap in combination with D3DO vsync using MSI Afterburner RTSS.

Is it possible the refresh rate the game is detecting with the resolution could be causing a problem?

Somebody should really test Community Patch 1.6 and Addon Mod 1.99
I mean, I know the later is already mentioned there... but if the improvement are big (I can see proper widescreen support for example, or fixed shader) it may be worth something more than just a little space under "mods"

BONKERS (talkcontribs)

I tested FCAM, it does have proper Widescreen for 16:9 at least. But fixed shaders, dont' know if I played long enough to see anything other than changes to underwater shading, which imo look worse such as the bloom they added.

There are also a lot of really questionable texture choices.

But yeah, I ended up just using FCAM and deleting basically 90% of the textures they install with it.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

Other improvements besides proper widescreen?
And is this proper widescreen something different than simple FoV hack (to restore 100% hor+ behavior)?

Degraded performance on AMD cpus?

The game is claimed to use old 3DNow! extensions even on newer AMD CPUs which support faster SSE (newer as in "between Athlon XPs and Phenoms")
