How should we deal with removed games?

Following the recent controversy regarding the ending (or lack thereof) of Dark Matter, the game was removed from both Steam and GOG.com. How should we deal with this? Also remove it from the list, or should we still list it as it was sold for a very short period of time?

Andytizer (talkcontribs)

I believe that an ending is being churned out for the game very quickly and will be back on Steam and GOG.com within the next few weeks, so I don't think there's any harm in keeping it up in that list.

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

I would prefer if we removed it, just in case the game never gets finished, and put it back once it returns to the storefront.

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

Actually, going by the Steam page, it seems as if they are pretty certain they will address it.

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

I suppose I should bring this back up seeing as the Fallout games were just removed. The game's articles have been completed, is there any point is removing them from the list?

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

Maybe just list them on a separate list? Remove from the total count, but still keep a list somewhere around.

I've kind of wanted to do something like this for a while, but it took a really long time just to make the list in the first place that this'd take an entire day just to make it into a table. I think the "Downloadable" column would be true in all cases, I don't know of any exceptions. If there are any it'd be easier to note it at the bottom of the page, most likely.

I think the columns would be something like the Game Name, "Article exists?" (Although this may be a bit repetitive, honestly), "Completed?" and then a "Notes" column. "Notes" would be where we could, theoretically, place things like "Removed from purchase but still downloadable for those who purchased previously". I think a column which lists a number, as we have currently on the list, to make it easier to check to make sure our current number listed is accurate.

Thoughts?

The only reason I included the "Downloadable by purchasers?" section is due to a GOG.com employee mentioning there is the possibility in which they must pull the Fallout games from the site completely - including from purchasers' libraries. As such, the "Downloadable by purchasers?" section for those games would have crosses instead of ticks.

Otherwise, I think your observations are, for the most part, spot on - especially on the lack of a need for "Downloadable by purchasers?" column since I also haven't heard of a case where GOG.com has had to fully pull a game from their site. The only thing I question is the need for an "Article exists?" column when the game name(s) already show up in red when they lack a page.

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

My reasoning for that would be that we could - theoretically - have the column be sortable so editors would be able to immediately sort the list by those games that don't yet have an article. This isn't currently possible with our Yes/No template and I'm not experienced enough in Wiki syntax to say whether it's possible at all, but if it is it may useful.

In my mind, it depends on whether a game belongs on the GOG.com game list is dependent on if it can still be downloaded by those who bought them after it's no longer sold by them. If yes, then simply update the articles to reflect this. If not, then remove them from the list and update the formerly-associated articles.

Also, without discussing the above, I see a point in both removing and not removing the Fallout games from the GOG.com list. For removing them from the list: yes, the articles are completed, but as the pages themselves show, they're still sold elsewhere, and it's a simple matter of noting on the appropriate pages that the games are no longer sold on the list and removing GOG.com from the availability charts. For not removing them from the list: the games can still be downloaded by those who purchased them before they were pulled, correct? So why not simply color-code them on the list to note it? Furthermore, should GOG.com be forced to remove the Fallout games from the collections of everyone who purchased them, color-code them again.

Keeping an eye on new releases

Over the last week, none of the new releases were added to this page. Would someone be willing to keep this page updated at all times with new releases, so we can avoid this situation in the future?

Nicereddy (talkcontribs)

Generally either you or Garrett have done this in the past so I never paid much attention, but I'll check every now and then if needed.

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

Well, yes, generally. However the past week no one appears to have done it, so it would be good if someone is willing to take it upon themselves to be the person to do this (similarly how new Humble Bundles are added by me unless I know before hand I will be unable to do so). Sort of be listed as a person to which this particular responsibility falls - linking new GOG.com releases, and possibly updating the pages to included the gogcom page and other stuff typical for games available on GOG.com.
