  2. Under section [Hype - The Time Quest] find a line PlayVideo=1 and change it to PlayVideo=0

  1. Download installation package for Hype: The Time Quest and extract it.
  2. Go to a folder Compatibility and run PatchInstall.bat to add the compatibility entries to system's database.

Installing on modern versions of Windows[edit]

64-bit versions of Windows can't run the CD installer due to it being a 16-bit application. Trying to run the installer in Windows 7 x64 will cause the process to freeze in the background and require the task manager to close.

Manual installation[1]
  1. Create a folder named Hype somewhere on your hard drive (from now on, we'll be referring to it as <path-to-game>).
  2. From the root directory of your CD copy files: DSETUP.DLL, DSETUP16.DLL, DSETUP32.DLL to <path-to-game>.
  3. Copy folders DLL, Gamedata and InstData to <path-to-game>.
  4. Go to exe folder on your CD.
  5. Copy Gli.ini to <path-to-game>.
  6. Copy MaiD3Dvr_bleu.exe from D3D folder to <path-to-game>.
  7. Copy MaiDFXvr_bleu.exe from Glide 3x folder copy to <path-to-game>.
  8. Copy all files from UbiConfig folder to <path-to-game>.
  9. Go back to a root folder of your CD and go to LangData\<your language>\world\.
  10. Copy folder levels to <path-to-game>\Gamedata\World.
    • When asked about scaling folders, answer yes.
  11. Go to the Windows directory (%WINDIR%)
  12. In it create a folder named UbiSoft.
  13. From the root directory of your CD copy files: DSETUP.DLL, DSETUP16.DLL, DSETUP32.DLL and SetupUbi.exe to a newly created %WINDIR%\UbiSoft
    • It may be possible that the folder already exists, as it's shared with other Ubisoft product of that era. In such case, do not replace any of the files.
  14. From InstData directory on your CD, copy strings.eng to %WINDIR%\UbiSoft
  15. Download installation package for Hype: The Time Quest and extract it.
  16. From config folder copy ubi.ini to %WINDIR%\UbiSoft
    • If you had other Ubisoft products installed that use the same application, you have to manually edit ubi.ini adding Hype - The Time Quest under [INSTALLED PRODUCTS] as well as the section responsible for game configuration (just copy lines from [Hype - The Time Quest] to [OSD] from ubi.ini provided in installation package).
  17. If your language is different than English, edit ubi.ini, find a line Language=English under [Hype - The Time Quest] section and change it to a language you're using in your copy (e.g. for Polish it's Language=Polish - incorrect language will make all the characters mute).
  18. Go to a folder, where you've extracted the files from installation package.
  19. GO to a folder Compatibility and run PatchInstall.bat to add the compatibility entries to system's database.
  20. Install nGlide wrapper, if you haven't already.
  21. Finally, go to <path-to-game> and run Ubiassistant.exe and choose 3DFX configuration.
  22. Run the game using MaiDFXvr_bleu.exe.
