BloodRayne 2 is a singleplayer third-person action and hack and slash game in the BloodRayne series.

The game lacks an FPS limiter or Vsync, which causes bugs and crashes at frame rates over 60 FPS. The only way to fix this is to use the FSAA patch.

Issues fixed

FSAA Patch crashes the game on startup

Use fixed version by elishacloud[11]

Install the BloodRayne 2 Patch instead.

High refresh rate causes issues with movement

High refresh rate may break the game - for example, you can get stuck mid-air after performing double-jump with the slow-motion mode enabled.
Lock the game at 60 FPS
  • Set the screen refresh rate to 60 Hz.
  • Use either the BloodRayne 2 Patch or the GPU driver settings.

Black screen during cutscenes

Fix cutscenes with FSAA Patch[7]
  1. Install the BloodRayne 2 Patch.
  2. Load the Configuration Tool, and go to the 'Cut Scene' tab.
  3. Click on "Install The NEW cutscene.dll".
  4. Select "Internal" video player.
  5. Click on "Test Configuration". If a video from the game is played, skip the next 3 steps.
  6. Alternatively, select the desired external video player.
  7. Select the path to a video player. The tool will try to find it. If blank text box is shown, the path must be entered manually.
  8. Enter the parameters that the video player needs to start to play a video in fullscreen, and to exit after the playback.
    • For example, if using mpv, use --fullscreen --keep-open=no.
    • Additionally, --no-input-cursor --no-input-default-bindings will lock all keyboard/mouse controls in mpv while the cutscene is playing.
    • Optionally, re-enable skipping of cutscenes in mpv with the Esc key by creating a text file [path to mpv.exe]\portable_config\input.conf with the line ESC quit in it.
  9. After configuring the playback method, click on "Write Configuration To cutscene.ini".
  10. If this does not work work, click on "Restore The Original cutscene.dll".
Fix cutscenes with dgVoodoo 2[12]
  1. Download dgVoodoo 2.
  2. Extract dgVoodooCpl.exe and the contents of the MS\x86 subfolder to <path-to-game>.
  3. Open dgVoodooCpl.exe.
  4. Go to the DirectX tab.
  5. Disable "dgVoodoo Watermark" and click OK.

Run the game at screen refresh rate

Fullscreen mode defaults to 100 Hz, even if the screen refresh rate is set higher than that.
Use unofficial patch[12]
  1. Install the BloodRayne 2 Patch.
  2. Open br2fsaaConfig.exe and set the refresh rate if needed.
Use dgVoodoo 2[12]
  1. Download dgVoodoo 2.
  2. Extract dgVoodooCpl.exe and the contents of the MS\x86 subfolder to <path-to-game>.
  3. Open dgVoodooCpl.exe.
  4. Enable "Enumerate refresh rates".
  5. Go to the DirectX tab.
  6. Set the desired resolution from the list (e.g. 1920x1080, 119Hz).
  7. Disable "dgVoodoo Watermark" and click OK.

Notes

  1. This version of StarForce DRM does not work on Windows Vista or later.[1][2][3][4] For supported versions of Windows the StarForce driver may need to be updated manually using SFUPDATE.
  2. 2.0 2.1 When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  3. 3.0 3.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/3820/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (3820) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
