Skip intro videos[edit]

Delete/rename video files[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\Videos\
  2. Delete or rename UBI_LOGO.bik.
  3. Go into the folder for your language (e.g. en for English).
  4. Delete or rename warning_disclaimer.bik.

Patches[edit]

The version 1.01 patch can be downloaded from the Files section. Among other fixes, it adds ATI Eyefinity support, and provides some performance enhancements for multi-core processors.

Save games before the new patch are in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegame_storage
The save folder was relocated in a November 23, 2012 patch.
If you change the YML config file to allow offline play, or if you select the Uplay launcher to stay offline in the options, then your progress and games will NOT be saved!
You CAN turn cloud-sync OFF in the options, but you must allow Uplay to go online to allow Assassin's Creed II to save games to this location on your local hard drive.

Controller support[edit]

Wireless Xbox 360 Controllers and Wired Xbox One Controllers are not detected correctly resulting in incorrect button mappings. Windows 10 Users can find a fix at the bottom of this section.
Automatically installed Xbox One controller drivers have issues install older drivers listed below
Use x360ce for Wireless Xbox 360 Controller support[citation needed]
  1. Download the latest version of x360ce and extract it into the Assassin's Creed II installation folder.
  2. Run x360ce.exe and confirm the creation of x360ce.ini and xinput1_3.dll.
  3. In "x360ce Presets" (located towards the bottom of the controller window), choose "Controller (Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows)."
  4. Check that all buttons are working correctly.
  5. On the "Option" tab, choose Hook mode: *Compatibility*.
  6. Press "Save" to save .ini file, then exit.
  7. Run the game and verify that the controller is working correctly.
If the above doesn't work[3]
  1. Download this and extract it into the Assassin's Creed II installation folder.
  2. It seems to be a correctly-configured setup for the above x360ce.exe that is not easily reached by most, and will override any in-game controller settings. Triggers, D-Pad and other buttons will function exactly as they do in the subsequent series installments.

  2. Press 'Download Link' and you'll be taken to a Google Drive folder. Select Windows 10 and download both the x360ce.ini and xinput1_3.dll. Place them both into the Assassin's Creed II installation folder.

  2. Setup a x360ce profile and drop x360ce.ini and xinput1_3.dll into game installation folder

Issues fixed[edit]

Odd lighting bug[edit]

Odd lighting bug that causes lights to shine through walls and other objects. This issue is cause by the Nvidia Control Panel forcing graphical settings on. A fix to this is to enter the NVIDIA Control Panel select "Adjust image settings with preview" option and then select the "Let the 3D application decide". This should fix the lights shining through everything.

Game freeze when given hidden blade[edit]

You must press "2" to select the weapon to continue the cut-scene, default mapped keys do not work as they should.

Error "A Ubisoft service is unavailable at the moment"[edit]

If you can't launch the game from steam, download and install the latest Uplay client from Ubisoft.
