Saints Row DRM-free on Epic

3
Future-proof (talkcontribs)

I saw that you noted on the Saints Row page that it's DRM-free on Epic, which is fantastic. Do you know if the story DLC also works? A lot of games only work DRM-free for the base game. Thanks again!

Dribbleondo (talkcontribs)

I'm afraid I didn't check that, but you are welcome to try.

I'll be focusing on the new free games for a bit, as I only have so much time to test these things.

Yeah, that makes sense. I appreciate the reply!

Regarding Hitman World of Assassination epic DRM

Thanks for your findings on this! But are you sure you need the "-epicuserid=EPIC_USER_ID" switch? Have you tried some random strings here? Otherwise it would mean your downloaded files are tied to your user id, or (similar to standard steam drm) that you have to start the game at least once through epic to play it. Thats not really drm-free.

Dribbleondo (talkcontribs)

Okay, so here's something interesting. Putting in any random sequence of letters or numbers -- see here: https://imgur.com/a/s6h2JYe -- will simply create a new save folder for offline mode in AppData\Roaming\IO Interactive\Epic\ and will start the tutorial up and lets you play.

It is entirely possible to create and use a seperate ID, the game doesn't check to see if its valid with EGS, and it doesn't require one playthrough via EGS to use, making the game DRM-free and not dependant on EGS or IOI's servers.

Yetanotherpcgwuser1 (talkcontribs)

Nice! Do you intend to update the wiki page accordingly?

Also, did you try your mentioned offline mods with this game thoroughly? I'm tempted to buy it, if a full offline experience is really possible.

Dribbleondo (talkcontribs)

I'll update the wiki page soon, yeah.

Offline Mode Enhanced got update a month ago, so that sees active development.

I have used Offline Elusives several times, and it still works last I checked.

Permanent shortcuts offline seems to be broken, however, so I will remove that from the list.

Just a note, you still can't earn weapons offline, but online items do sync over to the offline profile, and scoring is still not available (there IS a mod that does it, but they are of a dubious nature).

Spider-Man Remastered (EGS)

Hey, I noticed that you edited the Marvel's Spider-Man page to let everyone know that the Epic version is DRM-free. I can't even tell you how excited I was when I found out about that, as it's one of my favorite games, and I plan on double-dipping on the EGS version soon to have a DRM-free version (I currently have it on Steam).

The game just got updated today, and I was wondering if you could see if it still works DRM-free. No pressure, just if you get a minute. You also don't by any chance have Miles Morales to check, do you? I suspect that the first game being DRM-free might have been a mistake on Insomniac's part, but I hope I'm wrong about that.

Thanks for your contributions, and have a great day!

Dribbleondo (talkcontribs)

I'm updating it right now. I sadly don't have Miles Morales, nor Uncharted, and I believe the game has been updated several times since release, so I'm sure it's intentional. I'll check once my computer is done updating, and will get back to you.

Also, something to mention is that saves are stored in a different place when playing DRM Free (it's just a different folder in the same general area, so it's not a huge hassle).

I don't think it has any DRM because Sony seem perfectly fine with it being like that; EOS is not inherently required for the game (Spidey remastered on EGS strangely has no achievements as of writing), so there isn't a reason to fully lock the game down to EGS.

EDIT: Can confirm, Spidey Remastered still works and is still DRM Free.

Future-proof (talkcontribs)

Fantastic, thanks for confirming that it still works DRM-free! It's really cool that Sony is okay with doing that for a lot of their games; I wish they'd do the same for the Steam versions, but I'm not going to complain too much as long as there's a DRM-free version out there somewhere.

Thanks again!

Just want to thank you for your (very fast) edits regarding DRM on EGS. After every freebie I first check your contributions and never have been disappointed.

Keep on going! :)

Dribbleondo (talkcontribs)

Thank you =) I really appreciate the kind words!

I've tried to make the EGS side of things a bit more consistent DRM-wise, so we don't have the issue with Steams' DRM page where it's a whole mess due to a lack of information. Of course, I don't own every game on EGS (and my only games' I've actually bough is Spidey Remastered and Hitman 3), so I am annoyed I can't check every game so easily.

There's nothing worse than incorrect information, other than outdated information or a lack of it for a subject.
