Key points

Poor port with many bugs and issues that have not been fixed.[1] For example, if one wants to access the settings whilst in-game, one must quit to the main menu.[2] Furthermore, there are many problems with the game remembering remapped keys.[3]

Essential improvements

Title Update 1.8 patch

The latest non-Steam patch is Title Update 1.8 which can be installed through the launcher or downloaded manually from Ubisoft's servers. The Steam version already has this patch.

Video settings

Video settings can be changed by editing default.cfg located in %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Ubisoft\Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier[4]

Widescreen resolution

Title Update 1.2 will lock the resolution to 720p.[5]. Patching to Title Update 1.4 resolves a lot of video resolution problems, and enables the game to be played in most resolutions and in Eyefinity set ups.

Nvidia SLI Performance Increase

User r3mx_D has devised a performance increase setting for those using Nvidia cards in SLI mode to make full use of the second card in SLI. Without this setting, the second card is only utilised 0-1%.[6]

Using Nvidia Control Panel, one needs to apply settings to these exe files:

future soldier.exe and launcher.exe

And apply the setting:

Force alternate frame rendering 2

Issues unresolved

Steam Multiplayer

Any time you connect to a host with a different patch, you will be booted within 10-15 seconds of connecting. This is because the Steam version of the game is different to other multiplayer hosts or clients.[7]

Issues fixed

Mouse Won't Work

Whilst the keyboard and mouse may be selectable within the game menu, but does not work in the game. Uninstalling the drivers for any installed gamepads fixes for some people.[8]

Game does not go fullscreen correctly

Go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Ubisoft\Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier and edit default.cfg, change the resolution, save, then set the file to read only.

Mouse not clipping to the game window

Go to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Ubisoft\Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier and edit default.cfg; change fullscreen from True to False, save, then set the file to read only.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/212630/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (212630) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
