This list is accurate http://www.gog.com/forum/general/list_of_drmfree_games_on_steam/page1 but there are some missing DOSBox games and explanation how it works. Also, read comments, because list wasn't edited long time.

I won't edit list any more nor contribute any more.

DRM free games DB

http://www.drmdatabase.net/database/drm-free-games

This list is full of wrong claims. Some people think if 3rd party DRM is removed, game is automatically DRM free in Steam which is wrong because majority of them have Steam DRM (stub or CEG). What's worse, there are games on the list which start perfectly fine without Steam client pop up, but you need to enter CD key.

AI War Fleet Command on this list is wrong. It doesn't have Steam DRM, but you need to enter CD key after which is DRM free, but this is not pure DRM free. The same apply for other Arcen Games games and for non-Steamworks Stardock games after you register them. More games with Steam DRM:

Sacred 2: Gold, Star Wolves 3: Civil War, Steel Storm, Darkstar One, and probably more. I'm testing games, but you get my point :-).

Or BS like this DCS: Black Shark which has StarForce ProActive DRM.

The Witcher series

The Witcher 2: AoK EE is DRM free and you get the same bonus content like in GOG version, and I thought it's the same with The Witcher: EE DC because CD Projekt RED are DRM free guys. I installed it, and no, it has Steam DRM. What is funnier, game has all the bonus content like GOG version (it's even written on Store's page), but they didn't striped out Steam DRM. I'll try exe from GOG version and report it. I don't have The Witcher 2 yet, but for DRM, read this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=32128446&postcount=5

Arios (talk)17:19, 8 October 2013

You might want to contact CD Projekt RED, I think they'd be more than willing to remove the DRM. Then again, they may have done it because they wanted the GOG version to be the only fully DRM-free one.

Nicereddy (talk)19:20, 8 October 2013

Good proposal. Will contact them in the following days and will link wiki pages. For The Witcher GOG .exe, we'll have to wait. Download is almost 10 GB big, and I have some other games to test first but it will be in a day or two.

I added AoD, DH and FTG on the list. You can get easily DRM free versions of games by appling patches. They are all posted on official Paradox forum, and some even by devs so everything is legal :-). I don't understand Paradox for those 3 games, because they are DRM free on GamersGate and Amazon digital download.

SEGA classics

Every pack has a bunch of games. Should we link them to Steam Store page or if there is a wiki arcticle?

Arios (talk)07:09, 7 October 2013

These games work like DLC for the shared launcher, so I'd say they don't need to be linked to local wiki articles.

A few of these games aren't part of any Classics bundle (ToeJam & Earl, ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron, Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic Spinball); I'm guessing these still share the same launcher and so are DRM free like the rest?

Garrett (talk)14:41, 7 October 2013

All those games have the same SEGA Genesis & Mega Drive Classics Community Hub, and they all run on emulator so they have to be DRM free. You can add them until proven wrong :-).

Bohemia Interactive

If you have, check other Bohemia titles. They usually strip any DRM after year on two. http://store.steampowered.com/search/?category1=998&publisher=Bohemia%20Interactive Titles: Fish Fillets 2, Alpha Prime, Pound on Ground, Alternativa, Pat & Mat, Memento Mori.

Steamworks

Please, don't rewrite Steamworks section for sake of rewrite. People think Steamworks = DRM which is wrong. It's myth based on others digital stores description where they write DRM: Steamworks. Steamworks is not just Steam Cloud, Steam Achievements and multiplayer (those are the most known). That's why I wrote "others" and it means Steam Leaderboards, Steam Workshop, Steamworks CEG (DRM), Valve Anti-Cheat, Stats and probably some other things.

Arios (talk)02:49, 7 October 2013

My reasoning was to reduce the space taken up by the introduction sections; how about something like "Steamworks is not DRM itself but can offer features such as (X Y Z); Steamworks features won't work when running the game without the client", with the Steamworks page then describing what it is and isn't?

It might also be useful to note cases where multiplayer and other major features of a game rely on Steamworks since that game would then be a seriously reduced experience when played without Steam.

Garrett (talk)03:32, 7 October 2013

Leave it for now as is. It will be improved. Games are more important ;-).

Grammar fixes, more professional, etc.

I fixed some issues I thought were present, I think this list could be incredibly helpful but we generally don't want to inject any bias into it. The only bias we show on this wiki is towards PC features (FOV, no framerate caps, multi-monitor support, etc.) and against DRM in general. We don't necessarily prefer any storefront, developer, or game over another and it shouldn't appear that way.

At least, that's what I've gathered. I could be mistaken.

Nicereddy (talk)15:16, 6 October 2013

It is just test page. I'll open later this week a thread in SPUF to inform people. Please, don't delete semi-indie and Stardock. There will be games. I have big list. Need time to test, install and check all plus real life :-). I think it will be finished for around 10 days. There will be publishers' paragraphs. Don't change names of games - they'll have name like in Steam Store page.

Sorry, I changed them to reflect the article names on this wiki but I suppose it would be better to simply create redirects to their properly titled pages for ease of comparison with their respective Steam pages.

I deleted Stardock because at the time there were no games listed under the header. Preferably, we'd only include sections if there was at least one game under the section.

Thanks for your work on this, I think it's going to be an excellent addition to the wiki.

Nicereddy (talk)16:03, 6 October 2013

You edited my message rather than replying, here's the reply (for readability's sake):

OK, I didn't know why you edited names. Use games' name for wiki if you need, there is link to Store page anyway. I created the list of developers because I have always the same fight in Steam forums because people always repeat "but only indie games are DRM free, bla bla bla" and "Steamworks is DRM" - that's why I'll note Steamworks title. I want to disapprove stupid claims.

Nicereddy (talk)16:36, 6 October 2013

Sorry. I clicked wrong button :-/.

A GOG.com Forum Post w/ some information

See here.

Should we just add these or would it be preferable to test them first?

Nicereddy (talk)14:36, 6 October 2013

I forgot to log...

There are many lists of Steam DRM free games: http://steam.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games http://www.gog.com/forum/general/list_of_drmfree_games_on_steam/page1 http://www.drmdatabase.net/database/drm-free-games http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index.php?threads/list-of-steam-drm-free-games.80007/

They are not complete at all, and there are some wrong claims like all DOSBox games are DRM free (they are not). I need a week to two to add all games and test them.

Arios (talk)15:51, 6 October 2013

It probably should be clarified this page focuses on Windows versions of games (if the .exe stuff wasn't making it obvious enough), as the status of games on Linux is often different (and possibly OS X too, but I'm not familiar with that end of the situation).

Soebtalk|contribs14:31, 6 October 2013

That is true. I'll add only one Linux game which is DRM free in Linux and is CEG protected in Win and it will be noted. Valve pushes Linux, so :-).
