Well hl2 page's is still a junkyardy mess like the og hl one. Pls, someone fix this
Talk:Half-Life 2
Old and popular pages are often not the best as a lot of different, often inexperienced, people frequently edit them. If you see inaccurate information or articles that are "a junkyardy mess" you can contribute to the cleanup process by also making well curated edits yourself.
With that being said, i think all fixes for the "retail" version should just be deleted as the legally acquired game (even retail copies) requires Steam, and Steam forces the game to be updated to the latest patch. Creating a dedicated article for an outdated version of a game is out of the question imo.
Something I feel should be researched more is whether it is possible to property disable the high-pitched ringing sound that plays whenever an explosion goes off very close to the player. While done for the sake of realism, it is ear-grating, especially for those of us with sensitive hearing and/or hearing disabilities. The sound effect is generated in-engine, so it's not possible to mod it out simply by replacing an audio file. Setting the cheat cvar dsp_off
to 1 disables it, but it also disables a lot of other important audio processing filters. Valve, pls fix.
Agree! just started black mesa and this is a nightmare
In this video, originally shared on the Binaural Audio discord server, we see that even a WinXP machine will only mix in 5 channels, even when outputting to 7.1 (and it's not a standard 7.1 setup, either). More testing should probably be done. https://i.imgur.com/VbjDcdN.gif
This was replaced on this page with a similar mod that upscales all the textures. I don't object to that, but I'm leaving the link here in case someone else cares.
Added to the page.
Could someone with the know-how please post a set of instructions for using this mod in Half Life 2, Half Life 2: Update, and MMod? Would like to use but not sure how it's exactly done. Thanks!
Once the SteamPipe beta is released officially, please remove the step involving enabling it for the Oculus Rift.
Why is the page titled Half-Life 2 (All)?
No other game is following the convention, even those which have standalone expansions. I feel the page should simply be moved to Half-Life 2, but shall wait for further feedback.
Done :P
