+
This patch files are only created for this alternative setup.
+
+
1. Make a backup and delete from the installation folder following files:
+
D3D8.dll
+
D3DImm.dll
+
DDraw.dll
+
2. Copy the correct Wine3D patch files for your Star Wars Racer Version in the installation folder and overwrite the existing files.
+
3. Run the game regular over the Launcher from this alternative installer
+
+
Wine3D emulation is not perfect. No fog, no reflections, no lensflare, more color banding, etc.
+
Wine3D is a pure dirt emulation for Star Wars Racer.
+
+
Use dgVoodoo for a perfect game emulation.
+
dgVoodoo is better than Wine3D or dxWND at this game.

Star Wars: Episode I - Racer is a racing sci-fi game set in the Star Wars universe. Its sequel Star Wars Racer Revenge was never released on PC.

The game was initially released on retail disc for Windows on May 18, 1999 in North America and June 4, 1999 in Europe, alongside the Nintendo 64 version. The MacOS version was released later that year on December 16, 1999. It did not receive a modern digital distribution release until it was released on GOG.com on May 1, 2018.[1] It was released on Steam on November 16, 2018,[2] and later on Origin.

On PC, there is a small but active modding and speedrunning community based around this Community Discord server and uses this modded exe for multiplayer.

Frame rates above 30 may introduce glitches or game-breaking bugs.[3][4]

Key points

Installing the retail version on 64-bit versions of Windows requires a workaround. See Installing retail version on 64-bit versions of Windows.

Issues fixed

Play Old PC Games has troubleshooting information on installing and running the game.

Graphical issues

e.g., low frame rate, black screen, white screen, green screen, artifacts, crash on startup, etc.
Use dgVoodoo 2 for proper emulated old DirectX support[citation needed]
 1. Download dgVoodoo 2.
 2. Extract D3DImm.dll and DDraw.dll from the MS folder into the installation folder.
 3. You may need to rename dxgi.dll to dxgi.dll.BAK.
 4. You can configure the emulation and additional graphics settings using dgVoodooCpl.exe.

Notes

Allows the game to run properly on Windows 8, 10.
dgVoodoo 2 requires a DirectX 11 graphics card.
Edit dgVoodoo2 config file to eliminate z-fighting (Requires at least version 2.55.1 of dgVoodoo2)[8][9]

dgVoodoo2 2.55.1 introduced the ability to force the internal bit depth of D3D depth buffers. The setting must be edited in the dgVoodoo.conf config file.

 1. Download dgVoodoo 2.
 2. Extract D3DImm.dll and DDraw.dll from the MS directory to the game's installation directory. If using the GOG release, rename DDraw.dll in the game's installation directory to DDraw.dll.BAK before extracting.
 3. Extract dgVoodooCpl.exe from the dgVoodoo2_x directory to the game's installation directory.
 4. Open dgVoodooCpl.exe in the game's installation directory and click .\ under Config folder / Running instance to create a dgVoodoo2 config file in the game's installation directory.
 5. Open dgVoodoo.conf in the game's installation directory. Use Notepad++ or another text editor and locate the DepthBuffersBitDepth setting.
 6. Set DepthBuffersBitDepth to equal forcemin24bit. Save the config file.

Installing retail version on 64-bit versions of Windows

This section may require cleanup to meet basic quality standards. The specific problem is: It needs to be condensed and refined. You can help by modifying the article. The discussion page may contain useful suggestions.
The GOG.com version installs on 64-bit Windows without issue. For the retail version, read these installation instructions (click [Expand] to view).
Installation instructions
Alternative installer for modern systems[10]

German website with the installers: website An alternative Inno Setup installer can be downloaded from MediaFire for CD-Version and DVD-Collection Version. This alternative installer includes many fixes listed below. It's the ultimate installer for English, German and French version for this game.

 1. Put the CD or DVD of the game in your CD/DVD-Drive, or mount an ISO of the game.
 2. Start this alternative setup from your HDD. Choose the language of your game.
 3. The setup will find the CD/DVD of the game and start the install from it.
 4. After the regular installation, additional files are copied:
 • The latest patch for the game
 • dgVoodoo v2.51 (allows the game run under Win7, Win8, Win10. DirectX 11 compatibile Graphic Card is required to emulate DirectX 6 API)
 • A new Launcher with Widescreen Patch GUI that also has additional configuration settings for the game.
 • Batch startup file to play the game with single core on multi core systems
 • Mouse Fix (nomousy) for dgVoodoo (fixes displaying two cursors)
 • IPXwrapper integrated for IPX->TCP-IP Multiplayer Games.
 • FFmpeg with batch files to extract/convert cutscenes and game music

This custom installer uses old dgVoodoo2 version. If you still have issues with graphics (like greenish screen), then download latest version, unpack it and copy everything from MS folder to the install dir replacing files.

Update: Launcher 2.0 for CD, DVD or HDD versions of this Setup. Contain VB6-runtimes.
File: SWEP1RC_Res_Fix_Patch_v20.7z (Mediafire) (2,04 MB)

Optional for DirectX-9 User: Wine3D Emulation Files
This patch use the Wine3D emulation instead of dgvoodoo. Wine3D working with a DirectX-9 Emulation.
This patch files are only created for this alternative setup.

1. Make a backup and delete from the installation folder following files:

D3D8.dll
D3DImm.dll
DDraw.dll

2. Copy the correct Wine3D patch files for your Star Wars Racer Version in the installation folder and overwrite the existing files.
3. Run the game regular over the Launcher from this alternative installer

Wine3D emulation is not perfect. No fog, no reflections, no lensflare, more color banding, etc.
Wine3D is a pure dirt emulation for Star Wars Racer.

Use dgVoodoo for a perfect game emulation.
dgVoodoo is better than Wine3D or dxWND at this game.

Alternative installer[11]

An alternative MSI installer can be downloaded from his website. A guide on how to create a CD image with a new installer can be found here.

Manual installation[12]

1. Copy the gnome folder from Racer's CD to your hard disk and rename it to RACER
2. Copy RACER.EXE from the root of the CD into RACER folder on your hard disk
3. Copy DSETUP.dll, DSETUP16.dll DSETUP32.dll, SysCheck.exe, SYSCHECK.INI and Website.exe files from INSTALL folder into RACER folder on your hard disk
4. If for example you had placed the RACER folder in C:\Games then your folder structure would look like this:

C:\Games\RACER\data\ *files*
C:\Games\RACER\a3dapi.dll
C:\Games\RACER\DSETUP.DLL
C:\Games\RACER\DSETUP16.DLL
C:\Games\RACER\DSETUP32.DLL
C:\Games\RACER\IFORCE2.dll
C:\Games\RACER\Racer.exe
C:\Games\RACER\Smush.dll
C:\Games\RACER\SWEP1RCR.exe
C:\Games\RACER\SYSCHECK.EXE
C:\Games\RACER\syscheck.ini
C:\Games\RACER\WEBSITE.EXE<

5. Now for the registry entries. Copy the following text into Notepad

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Star Wars: Episode I Racer\v1.0]
"3D Device"="Microsoft Direct3D Hardware acceleration through Direct3D HAL"
"Analyze Path"="D:\\INSTALL\\SysCheck.exe"
"CD Path"="D:"
"DevMode"=dword:00000000
"Display Height"=dword:00000300
"Display Width"=dword:00000400
"Display"="Primary Display Driver"
"Executable"="C:\\Games\\RACER\\SWEP1RCR.EXE"
"Fix Flicker"=dword:00000000
"FullScreen"=dword:00000000
"GUID"="{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}"
"Install Path"="C:\\Games\\RACER"
"InstallType"=dword:00000009
"JoystickID"="1"
"Source Dir"="D:\\"
"Source Path"="D:"
"UseFett"=dword:00000000

6. You need to edit drive letters in this entries Analyze Path, CD Path, Source Dir and Source Path so they point to your CD/DVD drive. After that edit entries Executable and Install Path so they point to folders/files where you copied your game.

7. Now save that file as racer.reg and run it to import settings to registry.

8. You should be able to start the game.

Notes

If a launcher still shows only install option, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC\Star Wars: Episode I Racer and see if it's not empty. Keep in mind, that these entries must be located under Wow6432Node or they will not work.
If an error pops up asking to reinstall a game, it's probably, because entries in registry point to incorrect locations. Make sure you put correct paths Keep in mind to change only drive letters or C:\Games parts, not the whole entries.
Display Width/Height: Hex value of your resolution width/height. Yours may differ. i.e. 0x400=1024 decimal Use Windows calculator in programmer mode to convert decimal to hex or vice versa.

Human Interface Devices causing freezes on load with GOG or Origin/EA Desktop

There are issues with the game loading on Windows 10 on Origin or GOG with certain HID drivers installed[13][14]
 1. Download dinput_0.1_win10_x86.zip from GitHub:riverar/ IndirectInput
 2. Place in same directory as SWEP1RCR.EXE
