Essential improvements

Skip intro videos

Disabling the intros may cause some rendering issues to appear on slower machines.
Instructions

Video settings

Video options can't be change in-game. You must launch the configuration tool to change video settings.

Other aspect ratios

  • Flawless Widescreen can hack the game to run on any aspect ratio, and without letterboxes.
  • For ultra-widescreen and multi-monitor setups, it can also center the HUD, which will otherwise be stretched. This does not work with lower ratios (e.g. 16:10, 4:3).
This, however, will cause the player markers on the HUD to become misaligned from the actual racers, and the mouse cursor to move slower in the horizontal axis.

Input settings

Key and controller bindings must be changed in the configuration tool. Inversion and vibration options must be changed in-game.
Also supports motion controls under Windows 8.

Network

Multiplayer types

Type Native Players Notes
Local play
4 Local players can go online too!
LAN play
10 Players on the same network will be directly connected. Requires an internet connection for Steam authentication.[2]
Online play
10 The Matchmaking option does not have Region options. Thus, The Matchmaking is available for Multi-Region.

Connection types

Type Native Notes
Matchmaking
It's also possible to play privately on matchmaking.
Peer-to-peer
Dedicated
Self-hosting
Players can create custom matches, but P2P networking is still used.
Direct IP
Players can join other friends through their Steam profiles. Additionally, there's a way to make matchmaking lobbies private.

Private Matchmaking lobbies

Private matches can be created more easily by using the Custom Game option. This hack of sorts is intended for private ranked matchmaking lobbies only.
  • Although not an official option, it is possible to play privately on matchmaking mode by using the -internalid command line argument![3]
  • This option will force the game to connect only with players who are using the same internalid.

Issues fixed

Stuttering

Stuttering can be caused by high framerates (>60).
  • Turning on V-sync resolves this problem.[4]

Low Audio Volume

Volume level is very soft in game.
  • Fix the issue by going to Control Panel => Hardware and Sound => Sound. On the communications tab, choose "do nothing". (Note: This fix also applies to Batman: Arkham Origins.)

Issues unresolved

Missing objects on ATI Radeon HD3000

(also on entry-level Radeon HD4000; mid- and high-end models work fine)

Objects like the water and boost pads, essential to gameplay, will not render at all.[5]
No single fix for every system.
  • This is a driver issue, and not much can be done about it.
  • It may be partially fixed by messing about with the game's settings and window (minimizing, moving it, or even opening UAC prompts),[6] but even this will only make the objects slightly visible and still hard to see.

Shadow stripes

This occurs on some old NVIDIA GPUs, like the GeForce 7600GS (AGP8x). Unfortunately, there is no known fix.[7]

System requirements

Windows
Minimum Recommended
Operating system (OS) XP, Vista, 7, 8
Processor (CPU) 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent
System memory (RAM) 1 GB (XP)
2 GB (Vista, 7, 8)
Hard disk drive (HDD) 6.7 GB
Video card (GPU) 256 MB of VRAM
DirectX 9 compatible
Shader model 3.0 support

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/212480/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (212480) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
