Key points
- The PC version adds improved flashlight lighting and the ability to save at any time during the game.
- Only the PC version takes advantage of video texturing.
- It is highly recommended to set the Brightness Level in-game to 5 to get the most contrast. Brightness Level 6 and 7 overexposure the white level, while 4 and below are unnecessarily dim.
- Heather has a pixelated real-time shadow. No option to increase shadow resolution, but it can be disabled in-game.
- Bad depth-of-field; use Nemesis Widescreen Fix to tweak or disable.
- FPS may fluctuate between 30 FPS and 60 FPS. There are no known solutions to this.
- Only supports DirectInput for controllers and default bindings are awkward. Controls should be adjusted.
- 14 of Heather's outfits in the PlayStation 2 version are removed.

Issues unresolved
Silent Hill 3 is usually considered the best PC port out of the Silent Hill PlayStation 2 releases. Still, it is not a perfect port by any means.
- Low resolution Depth of Field effect. Use Nemesis Widescreen Fix to tweak.
- If using anti aliasing (MSAA, at least), Depth of Field effect becomes corrupted (halos around objects).
- Rendering resolution (usually found under Inventory > Options > Configuration) is actually internal framebuffer resolution. Use it to match your display resolution.
- By default, the game creates savegames in its own folder. This can cause issues for users with non-elevated privileges. The workaround is to change the default save location by modifying the registry.
