Really? I really does not like how this sounds.. I mean: introduced lag, stuttering.. then there are those games where v-sync is ****ed (dead space games, skyrim) and worsen even more the problem.
I think we had already said some words on the matter here

Besides, am I getting older or did high frame rate required 100FPS to be true once?


EDIT: According to this Nvidia Inspector limiting adds as much input lag as v-sync itself (but dropped frames possibly).
This may or may not be isn't the case with RTSS and gedosato (right rendered ahead frames are important too). In other news adaptive v-sync is a flawless tech.
EDIT2: inspector should be deprecated, period

EDIT3: of interesting note that if you enable windowed G-Sync, windows will be frame limited to the screen refresh rate (but only when they have focus)

Frame Rate Target Control via Radeon Settings

As of the "Crimson" drivers, the Radeon settings tool now includes an option called "Frame Rate Target Control". Is this capping or something else entirely?

It's capping, however I believe it isn't as good as capping through e.g. RTSS or similar third-party alternatives. Battle(non)sense goes through it in one of his videos, screencap for easier viewing: https://i.imgur.com/M3KQ5bU.png

The video (can't link it cuz PCGW is broken) is FreeSync vs. G-Sync Delay Analysis, and the screencap is from 15:15.

With v-sync (don't know for proper FPS capping) GPU is still running at ordinary "speed", as if it was still achieving nominal framerate.
Therefore there's no reduction in power requirements, heat produced or noise emitted

Frequencies are still rampant.. though usage is definitively lower

Just a quick test...

Nope. Vsync may actually not scale the frequency, that may be true.... but it still reduces GPU usage and as such temperature. So nope.

A lower temperature though (providing physical conditions didn't change) could be only linked to lower power usage...
So assuming both tomshardware/AMD and you are right.. I wouldn't know where to turn

The thing is, I used to cap framerate on when I had GTS 250 which very easily got itself to 75 degrees. That one had much lower temperatures, if Vsync was on (assuming, the game I was playing would be running twice twice as fast without it, obviously).

Yeah, I believe you.. though since heat generated and power used are directly bound (thanks to our friend, the Joule effect)...

Ok, the problem was subtle: "[...] meaning you don't get all of the power savings"
