Key points
- Often toggled with Alt+↵ Enter but for many games it has to be enabled manually.
- Easy multi-tasking.
- Can usually be modified to work as a borderless fullscreen windowed mode.
- Some games do not have a native windowed mode.
Windows
- Great for older games which have no native windowed mode support such as the Black & White series.
3DAnalyze
- 3DAnalyze has many features alongside a forced windowed mode.

D3DLookingGlass
D3DWindower
- D3DWindower has to be run with admin rights on. See Windows compatibility mode.
- Allows to have and use multiple configurations at once.
Instructions |
---|
DxWnd
- Great for Win95/98 like games such as StarCraft, Diablo and Quake. Many presets are already included.
- DxWnd will automatically apply any configurations while open, by simply opening the desired game.
- Slightly unintuitive interface, the in-game performance might get worse.
Mouse locking
- Certain games do not lock the mouse inside the actual window, this can result into some rather annoying behaviour on multiple screens.
Borderless Gaming
- Open source and simple to use application.
- Dynamic, adapts easily when switching to a different resolution on another monitor.
- Allows the taskbar to be hidden while also being on top.
- Allows games to lock the mouse to the current window.
