Availability

All versions require Steam.

Essential improvements

Remove unused cutscenes to free up space

Features dual audio English and Japanese for the ROW release.[1] Removing the cutscene files for either language frees about 20 GB of space.[5]
Verification and updating by Steam will redownload the files.[6]

Anti-aliasing (AA)

Nvidia users can follow this guide at Guru3D for alternative hardware AA.

Follow the guide to modify AA settings if various issues arise, as the game needs very specific settings to function correctly with Nvidia cards.[7]

Issues unresolved

Inconsistent FPS

While there are several workarounds and fixes for inconstant FPS (an issue not entirely unique to the PC port[8][9]), for some this remains unresolved and may be due to issues with the game itself.[10][11] Originally designed for cell processor with 6 allocatable cores, this port puts all the logic on a single thread, making single-core responsiveness imperative, and others theorize that it simply has broken resource management that underutilizes the CPU and GPU.[12]
The game also uses a custom frame rate pacer that locks the frame rate to refresh rate intervals similar to vsync, but much more aggressively.[13] This leads to issues when locking at a lower frame rate than the 60 FPS cap, even momentarily, such as stutter and jitter in-engine as well as stutter in FMVs. Manually locking the game at a lower frame rate through third party tools does not resolve these issues.

Shadows appear pixelated and jagged

Example of pixelated and jagged shadows.
Example of pixelated and jagged shadows.
Shadows are inferior to the console versions, appearing pixelated and jagged.[14]
Instructions

Controller vibration doesn't work

The game lacks the controller vibration support found in the console versions entirely.[1]

Audio volume is low

The game has a low volume level that is about half as loud as a typical game. There are no in-game volume options, so turning up the PC volume is recommended. If you are streaming or recording the game with commentary, you may want to decrease your microphone volume.

Crashes when loading a new area

The game can crash when loading a new area.

Issues fixed

Launcher doesn't launch

Instructions

Could not secure sufficient VRAM

This issue occurs when launching the game due to the inability to allocate the required VRAM.[15]
Check if you meet the system requirements through Steam. It can be done directly by entering steam://checksysreqs/292120 in a web browser. There are additional checks such as Can You RUN it available.[15]
Run "dxdiag.exe" and ensure at least 256MB is shown under "Approx. Total Memory" under the "Display" tab.[15]
Instructions

Abnormal eyelashes and hair

300px
Abnormal eyelashes and hair with Lightning.
This issue occurs when MSAA is disabled as it's required for proper alpha to coverage.[16]
Instructions

Macroblock-like hair artifacts

This fix is for Nvidia users with GeForce 400 series (Fermi architecture) or higher and occurs only when using MSAA (on by default).[7][17]
Instructions

Continuous cursor cycling in menus

Symptoms of this issue include continuous cursor cycling through menu entries as if the user was pressing a directional button.
Instructions

Missing text during enemy scans

Display resolutions other than 1280x720 can cause missing text during enemy scans, such as whether an enemy is vulnerable to specific status effects et al.[18][19]
Instructions

Crashes when saving

The game can crash when saving with Steam Cloud synchronization active. This can also result in corrupted save files.
