Key points
- This is a re-release of the 2000 PC port of the PlayStation version.
- Updated with compatibility with modern operating systems along with additional new features that can be used by pressing F1 through F5 (more information in manual in the launcher):[1]
- High Speed Mode, which increases the game speed by about 5x.
- Battle Assistance, which always keeps the ATB bar full, makes Limit Breaks always available, prevents status ailment damage, keeps HP full, and prevents damage from enemies.
- 9999, which makes all player dealt damage and healing do the maximum 9999 amount.
- AP MAX, which sets all currently learned GF abilities to their max level.
- Magic and Gil MAX, which sets all acquired magic spells to 100 and Gil to its maximum limit.
- Magic Booster, which increases the inventory of various spells by 100.
- Chocobo World, a mini-game previously found in the Pocket station port of the game.
- Steam cloud and achievement functionality.
- Slightly better models with more polygons (togglable).
- Analog on controller works, however, Squall still only runs in 8 directions, whereas in the PlayStation version, Squall has complete circular movement.
- Uses inferior MIDI music compared to the PlayStation version, though this can be easily fixed.[2]
- Minor thin black bars on the top and bottom.
- FMVs from the original PC release were re-encoded from 480p Bink format (with tons of macroblocking) to 720p VP8/OGG with additional post-processing resulting in a blurrier look. SE has access to the original uncompressed files or al least some less compressed versions of them (the Blu-ray release of "Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY" has several videoclips from FF7/FF8/FF9 macroblock free and way more sharper).
- Excluding menu screens the frame rate is capped at 30 FPS (15 FPS during combat and FMVs).
