iNES was one of the first emulators for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Released in 1996, it is still updated today and aims to be usable by "non-expert[s]". Multiple platforms are supported.

Nestopia

Nestopia is an open source NES/Famicom emulator designed to emulate the NES hardware as accurately as possible. Originally for Windows only, Nestopia has been ported to the Mac OS X and Linux operating systems. Nestopia ceased official development in 2008, but a number of unofficial forks have been derived from the latest source.
