Improvements

Patches

The game is currently at version 1.02. You can download the patch here. It is heavily recommended to patch to the latest version. As usual, Steam users should not have to use this patch; The Steam version should already be up to date.

Conflict with nVidia Geforce 306.23 Drivers

A conflict with the 306.23 nVidia drivers causes a crash-to-desktop when the game transitions from the introduction videos to the main menu. This can be fixed by rolling back to the 301.42 driver instead (or updating to the latest drivers).

Game runs in Windowed Mode

By default, the game should run in fullscreen mode. However, occasionally, the game forces itself into windowed mode, and, as there is no fullscreen mode available in the options section, it seems impossible to fkx. To run the game (or any game, rather) in fullscreen mode instead of windowed mode, press Alt+Enter. You can also set the command "-fullscreen" on the desktop shortcut to toggle full screen automatically. (Example: "C:\Programs Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Assassins Creed\AssassinsCreed.exe" -fullscreen)

Controller won't work properly

Assassin's Creed (and Assassin's Creed II) use an older version of the Xbox 360 Controller drivers, and, therefore, do not function as intended. The buttons may be mapped incorrectly, or the triggers may not work. To fix this, simply download the new drivers, as instructed below.

Instructions

For advanced users (and an updated version of the DLL), just go to the x360ce download page and download the corresponding DLL for your system. You can also download the program to create the INI for your particular gamepad.

Issues fixed

TweakGuides has created a comprehensive guide for fixing issues in this game. It can be found here.

Character Audio Problem

If you have 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound enabled, characters voices can be lost or inaudible. The only way to fix this seems to be switching to 2.1 Stereo.

Game Audio Plays, but no visuals

Go into the Assassin's Creed directory (for Steam, that would be located at $\Steam\steamapps\common\Assassins Creed), and swap the names of the files AssassinsCreed_Game and AssassinsCreed_Dx[version]. Then run the game.

Short freezing when killing an enemy/talking to NPC

On occasion, the game may try to connect with some Ubisoft servers, which could be down. This will result on choppy audio in-game. Two solutions exist:

  • Disable your internet connection while playing the game.
  • Go to:
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
Open the file 'hosts' with NotePad, and add the following IP addresses at the end:
216.98.48.18 127.0.0.1
216.98.48.53 127.0.0.1
216.98.48.57 127.0.0.1
216.98.48.133 127.0.0.1
216.98.48.134 127.0.0.1

This way the game can be played without having to disable your internet connection.
