Download the file below "Xbox Controller Fix.zip". Unpack both files(x360ce.ini and xinput1_3.dll) in the main Assassin's Creed directory. This method will also work with Assassin's Creed 2, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed Revelations.

Improvements

Patches

The game is currently at version 1.02. You can download the patch here. It is heavily recommended to patch to the latest version. As usual, Steam users should not have to use this patch; The Steam version should already be up to date.

Controller won't work properly

Assassin's Creed (and Assassin's Creed II) use an older version of the Xbox 360 Controller drivers, and, therefore, do not function as intended. The buttons may be mapped incorrectly, or the triggers may not work. To fix this, simply download the new drivers, as instructed below.

Instructions

For advanced users (and an updated version of the DLL), just go to the x360ce download page and download the corresponding DLL for your system. You can also download the program to create the INI for your particular gamepad.

Issues fixed

TweakGuides has created a comprehensive guide for fixing issues in this game. It can be found here.

Character Audio Problem

When you have 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound enabled, characters voices can be lost or inaudible. This can be fixed by switching to 2.1 Stereo.

Game Audio Plays, but no visuals

Go into the Assassin's Creed directory (for Steam that would be located at $\Steam\steamapps\common\Assassins Creed), and swap the names of the files AssassinsCreed_Game and AssassinsCreed_Dx[version]. Then run the game.

Conflict with nVidia Geforce 306.23 Drivers

A conflict with the latest nVidia drivers causes a CTD when the game transitions from the introduction videos to the main menu. This can be fixed by using the 301.42 driver instead.

Game runs in Windowed Mode

There is no Fullscreen mode available in the options section. To run the game in Fullscreen mode instead of Windowed mode, press Alt+Enter.

You can also set the command "-fullscreen" on the desktop shortcut to toggle full screen automatically.

Example: "C:\Programs\AssassinsCreed.exe" -fullscreen

Short freezing when killing an enemy/talking to NPC

The game tries to connect with some Ubisoft servers which have been shut down. Two solutions exist:

  • Disable your internet connection while playing the game.
  • Go to:
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
Open the file 'hosts' with NotePad, and add the following IP addresses at the end:
216.98.48.18 127.0.0.1
216.98.48.53 127.0.0.1
216.98.48.57 127.0.0.1
216.98.48.133 127.0.0.1
216.98.48.134 127.0.0.1

This way the game can be played without having to disable your internet connection.
