Widescreen resolution

Set in XCom.ini[1]
  1. Choose the Direct3D renderer in-game.
  2. Open <path-to-game>\System\XCom.ini.
  3. Change FullscreenViewportX= and FullscreenViewportY= to the desired fullscreen resolution.
  4. For resolutions higher than 2048x2048, download dgVoodoo 2 and extract dgVoodooCpl.exe along with the files from the MS\x86 subfolder into <path-to-game>\System\.

Notes

If fullscreen mode does not work when using dgVoodoo 2, increase the DirectX VRAM value with dgVoodooCpl.exe.
Vert-: Field of view is cropped on resolutions wider than 4:3. Increase FOV to compensate, see Field of view (FOV).

Field of view (FOV)

The fixes below affect both the gameplay and cutscene FOVs.
Set default FOV in-game[2]
  1. While in game, open the console with ~.
  2. Type fov x, where x is the desired FOV.
Set in User.ini[1]
  1. Open <path-to-game>/System/User.ini.
  2. Change the lines DesiredFOV=90.000000 and DefaultFOV=90.000000 to the desired values.
  3. Here are recommended values for a Hor+ image:
    • 5:4 - 86.3

Issues fixed

Game hangs at startup with Direct3D renderer

Use Creative ALchemy[2]
Use the default Glide renderer[2]

Notes

Glide does not support non-4:3/5:4 resolutions. Even if such a resolution is inserted manually, the game defaults to one of the resolutions present in the graphics settings.
Only supports up to bilinear texture filtering, unlike Direct3D that supports trilinear and anisotropic filtering as well. This means textures at a distance will be completely blurred without any detail on them.

Brightness slider not working

Use dgVoodoo2[2]
Use nGlide[2]
Use DDrawCompat[5]

Camera issues

Instructions[6][2]
  1. Open <path-to-game>/System/User.ini.
  2. Look for the following line: Aliases[26]=(Command="Toggle bExtra0",Alias=XFreeLookToggle).
  3. Map the alias XFreeLookToggle to an unmapped key below the Aliases part (e.g: Q=XFreeLookToggle).

Mouse spinning uncontrollably with a forced resolution in dgVoodoo 2

Turn on Free mouse in dgVoodoo 2's control panel[2]
  1. Right click in any part of dgVoodooCpl.exe's window.
  2. Click in Show all sections of the configuration.
  3. Go to the GeneralExt tab and tick the box Free mouse.
  4. Click in Apply and OK.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/7770/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (7770) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
