All versions require a RuneScape account and a constant internet connection for all game modes.
The Steam version provides one-click login with a Steam account, while the official version requires Jagex Launcher (not available on Linux)

Monetization

Type Notes
Free-to-play Free players have access to most skills, with other skills accessible up to level 5. The accessible map area and content is limited.
Subscription Members world and content can be accessed by buying a monthly subscription, or by redeeming a 14-day bond obtainable by in game currency. RuneMetrics Pro is a separate subscription which provide historical game performance reporting.

Microtransactions

Type Notes
Boost Bonds can be purchased by cash or in game currency, which can be redeemed for bundle of boost items. Treasure Hunter also awards boost items in some limited-time promotion.
Cosmetic Solomon General Store sells cosmetics for in game premium currency. Some items can be obtained only by limited time promotion, or purchasing a yearly subscription.
Currency RuneCoin can be obtained by real world money or redeeming bonds. They can be spent on the Solomon General Store for cosmetics
Free-to-grind Bonds can be obtained by in-game trading. Bonds can be redeemed for 14 days subscription, RuneCoins, Treasure Hunter keys. Free players get 1 free daily Treasure Hunter key (without stacking), while monthly/yearly subscribers get 2/3 daily keys respectively.
Infinite spend Treasure Hunter keys can be purchased up to 20,000 keys per day, with no monthly limit. Bonds can be purchased without limit to sell to other players for in game currency.
Loot box Treasure Hunter can award random items, such as cosmetics, in game currency, experience, boosts, training items and untradeable version of popular in game items depending on current promotion
Time-limited Treasure Hunter promotion rotates periodically, which affect available items. Yak Tracks are also seasonal events which players grind tasks to unlock time-limited cosmetics.
